Booking your ferry crossing

Just a little bit of advice my friends. I am coming back to the UK soon and was checking ferry prices for various crossings - Ouistreham/Portsmouth with Brittany Ferries, Le Havre/Portsmouth/Portsmouth with LD lines etc. Out of curiousity, I checked the prices on the english and the french sites and to my surprise there was, for exactly the same crossing, a vast difference in the fare prices. From Ouistreham to Portsmouth on Brittany ferries it was 459 euros booking on the french site and 370 euros booking in sterling on the english site so a difference of 90 euros for exactly the same thing. This may well change from time to time so it would be advisable to check both sites before booking. You can pay on either site with your english credit card but it may well save you enough for a few pints! I hasten to add that my crossing is more expensive because I amtowing the C-type on the trailer and I have a cabin both ways. However, out of interest, I checked the prices for Le Mans and again, leaving Wednesday and returning Monday there is a price difference of £80 in favour of booking on your side of the channel at the moment so that's fine for you. However, please bear in mind this advice in the future - it could be advantageous to pay in euros the next time.

Not Le Mans related, but I used to fly Stansted-Montpellier reguarly with Ryanair and found exactly the same thing. Sometimes it was cheaper to book in euros, sometimes in Sterling. Always worth a look.
