Roughly how much to do LM & LM Classic?

I'm evaluating the possibility of doing some different events this year, one which I've often thought about is Le Mans and the Classic, but I was hoping some of you chaps who have been there and done it in the past, would be kind enough to give me a breakdown of just how it can be done for?

The price comes with what you want a DIY trip or a package trip.
I always go a package trip, safer, clean toilets, Security. I will be looking at just under £1000 all in.
£505 for myself and my 8 year son package with PCGB.
Then you have fuel,tolls,food,travel insurance,petrol, RAC breakdown cover.

At the other end of the scale we do things DIY. This year I'm looking at;

Ferry = £29
Petrol for 826 miles @ 50 MPG @ 115p/litre = £86
General Admission ticket = £60
Camp site (probably Beausejour) = £60
Food & Drink @ £20/day = £140

Total: £375 for one person, or £287.50 pp (based on 2 sharing a car, ferry, camp site pitch).


Can't argue for the experience really.

I organise a big group to CLM, it is £550 for two people including tunnel, entry, grandstand, paddock, car parking and 3 nights hotel...

I,m doing the 24H and the Classic this year, for the 24H I'm budgeting £200 per person (3 people) from the north east England, Thursday to Monday.
That's including food,fuel,ferry,tickets,camping etc. That just leaves spending money.

For Le Classic le Mans 2010 my DIY costs so far are E619, say £550. This is for TWO people in one car and covers

Eurotunnel return
single hotel rooms
general entrance tickets
seats in the ACO tribune
paddock entry
parking at the circuit
and ACO membership (1 person) for a year.

The above have been paid for already except for the hotel which is guaranteed by plastic.

Then there will be fuel, food, drinks etc.

All in all, acceptable. It can be done cheaper particularly by camping but I'm too old for that!

Well I have just booked with TL
It is a package with the following
2 X General admissions.
2 X Grandstand supplements T18 ACO.
2 X Paddock passes.
1 X Car park VIP pass at Expo.
3 nights camping at Chateau Chateloup including a decent size tent, mats etc pre-erected.
All for £475. Just add the ferry on top.
I thought that was bloomin good value.
Can't wait.

For your first Le Mans Scott I'd do it as cheap and cheerful as possible then plan for 2011. Cheap ferry crossing, buy tickets online for BSJ and leave it at that. Get a feel for the place, view at usual places like Arnage, Mulsanne, vilage and TR, ignore grandstands for your first year.

So ferry £50, camp and admission for about £100, breakdown cover £40, petrol and beers on top. For your photography it will be awesome! Classic is about the same if you do it on the cheap. Thats what we did the first year, arrived 1pm Friday, drank, left 7am Monday.

As the man above says if you can find someone with a spare seat its more cost effective and fun.
Pop over to the uk cobra club website as there are a fair few heading down to the classic this year and you might just blag a seat ....

My girlfriend, friends and I are thinking of going this year. Anymore advice would be greatly appreciated. I think we plan to camp and do it as cheaply as possible. I have an Audi S4 Avant so we can load it right up with gear. My friend's commuting car is a new Mercedes E-Class which is diesel so that would be good for the long trip down too.

What ferry trips should we do? Just a short Dover to Calais or Boulonge? Are some campsites better than others? If required I'll start my own thread but thought this was related to the OP's thread.

No mate the club has gone with 1st tickets so we are not on MB this year, although if I do go down I wont be with the main group so might well end up who knows where, havnt firmed anything up yet.

There will however be plenty of cobs scattered around and I do know there will be some on MB for you to dribble over......

This year I cant make my annual lemans24hr trip (missus has penciled us in for getting married insted for that week...bugger), so we're trying out the classic insted. VIA 1st tickets, for two sharing one car it came to £113 for camping in Maison Blanche (my favorite camp site tbh), £34 for paddock passes and £17 for grandstand passes, all per person. On top of this we need to sort out (and fast, its getting close) ferry crossing's. We've normaly done the Dover/Calais route but its a bit harsh on the old cars (and some newer car's...we blew up a civic type R last year....it got caught on camera and is still on you tube, search out civic type R goes bang), add to the rising costs of fuel.....so this year we're gonna do the Portsmouth to LeHarve crossing insted, in a '79 ws6 Transam. Makes it a much shorter run so we can give the car a bit more abuse and also not feel as knackered when we arrive at camp.
