4.6 Range Rover FUEL COST TO LM 10

I mite have to be taking this gas guzzler to LM this year. This will be the furthist the car has gone since ive owned it. Dose anybody no what the fuel burn they would really do on a long run?
Im staying at pistonheads this year again so looking forward to seeing any of the boys who where down there last year leaving the misses this year and bringing the lads!!!!!!

Kenilworth - Dover = 189 miles

Calais - Le Mans = 263 miles

Total = 452 miles

At a guess i would say maybe 20mpg?

With that in mind, you will be burning 22.6 gallons of petrol one way.

22.6 gallons = 101.7 litres

At an average of £1.15 a litre that will mean £116.95 to get there.

£233.91 for the weekend in fuel + any driving about down there.

Only roughly of course

That was just a guess since people say you can get high 20's from a chimaera (4 litre) on a long motorway journey but obviously the TVR has a slight weight advantage

I usually expect 5 tank fulls for the Vette. One to the port, one to Le Mans, same coming back with a tank full during the 5 days there. About £250 in total, guess the Range Rover is about the same at guzzling as the Corvette.

You'll be lucky to get 20mpg I reckon!

Not sure what rpm a rangey would be doing at motorway speeds, but assuming lower gearing and therefore higher revs, I would lop a 5 off that figure...

Dont want to scare you but 3 years ago 18mpg from mates Vitesse TP.
Two years ago 16mpg from same mates Skyline R32.
Classic this year with vitesse again hoping for fewer "ooh this could be fun" moments.

My 4.6 Rangey did 13.5mpg towing a 2 tonne caravan from Roscoff to Le Mans and back at circa 80mph all the way. I did 120 miles Devon to Cornwall in it (solo) and managed 20mpg on the computer 'average mpg' thingy at 80ish most of the way. To give you a benchmark it used to 'average mpg' around 14.5 just tooling around locally.

My Supercharged Sport on the other hand, does 13.5 tooling around and 10.5 towing through France.

There was a big 50s Yank on the Annex a few years back...got 7 to the gallon...nice


By the way youre going to Le mans....dont worry about fuel cost

I would bank on a max of 12 to the gallon, that is what mine used to average with a cravan on the back.

Tyre Smoke you are not trying hard enough in your Sport, had mine down to an average 5.6 on the way home from Brands Hatch one time, four fat blokes in the car , 2 ton caravan and M25 shut in several places so booted it home on A and B roads. Full tank lasted just under 100 Miles.

Ha I towed the Le Mans Caravan down with my P38 five years ago.
Got a massive 12MPG average.
Forgot my LPG adapter too.
Expensive.
Oh and the Air suspension failed along with the water pump.
Loved that Car!?

From what you have been saying we are looking at 20 MPG i think.
I like what M3 said dont worrie about fuel and buy the time ive got to calais i will be wanting to get the boot down and forget about the fuel burn. So if you see a stickered up 1997 Range rover HSE in Knightfire Red doing a 100 give us a honk honk !!!!!!

109 is the record - towing the caravan.

Didn't half surprise the Noble as we cruised past.

Taking my Corsa this year and with it doing 600 miles on £40 a fill should do me!Happy days (Would love to take my Venom but 18mpg from Wales and fireworks & drunken tts doesn't do it for me anymore.

We went in my mates Range Rover classic last year, all dolled up in Gulf colours.

Cost us £300 in petrol, including a few trips around Arnage.

Although, he had a 3 inch lift kit, massive Anaconda off road tyres and a boot full.
