You can indeed - pretty sure you can just wander in their without even needing to show a grandstand ticket for one of the other tribunes.Same during the race the ticket checker bods usually disappear when it's quieter and don't reappear until the following morning (late) so you can go and sit in most of the other grandstands at different times (though not the ACO or Dunlop ones).
10 things that I have traditionally tried or made sure to do each year at Le mans for the last 25 years or so
1) Watch as much racing as possible.
2) Drink large quantities of beer and Wine
3) BBQ anything that is remotely edible.
4) Watch the sun rise on Sunday morning
5) Use the old fashioned open urinal behind the grandstands
6) Try to see some racing from all viewing points.
7) Have a least one trip on the big wheel each year
8) Get on RLM (only achieved this 3 times)
9) Visit the museum (about once every 5 years) but worth it for first timers
10)Meet as many old friends as possible.

Highly recommended to do from Mulsanne corner - the Sun rises over the tops of the trees at the side of the straight which can result in some epic views and photos of the cars barrelling into the corner at dawn:
(taken with crappy camera though..)
Re "free" grandstand access on Saturday and Sunday, in the mid/late 1990s it was the case that there were no marshalls around at quiet periods and when they reappeared they checked out everyone in the grandstand had a ticket. No ticket meant ejection (quite right too!). Anyway, now there's marshalls on the gates all the time so no free access.
This applies at La Sarthe (previously Maison Blanche) tribune where I always get a seat, but it may be more relaxed elswhere.
It's true that acces to the ACO tribune is checked throughout the event: no ticket, no entry. However, as an ACO member I do flash my pass and get access to the bar etc, but not to a good viewing point unless they are a bit lax!

Don't know about other grandstands, but when I went in 2004 the only way to get access to the stand above the pits was through the paddock, which meant you needed an extra pass just to get into this area, and then another pass to get into the stand/hospitality boxes...security was very tight all weekend, fortunately I had full Audi hospitality so had the right passes and they were checked every time we went in...
Don't know what it's like now, but I have paid the extra for above pit grandstand tickets...so I should have access to the paddock area as well...

To get access to the seating above the hostility boxes you simply go up the stairs, which are accessed from outside the paddock area, and then across the bridges - you don't need to go into the paddock itself. From memory, once you're in those grandstands it's quick tricky to then get down into the paddock without some sort of pass. But you may be able to access some of the levels where the hostility suites are.
This is based on being able to access these places on the Thursday night last year, rather than during the race, so things were a little more relaxed.
But as mentioned, you shouldn't need a paddock pass to access the seating above the pits, just the grandstand seating pass.

And not long after as the sun came over the trees.
Always a magic moment though.
