Hands up if you bought some currency last week and thought you'd got quite a good rate (114.5 with no commission) !!

And ooh look at what the FX rate is doing today....

Ho hum, at least petrol, beer and meat will be a tad cheaper if it stays like that or carries on going up.

Is it likely to change much in the next week? I'm working in Milan from tomorrow till Friday and was just going to buy a bundle of Euros this week!

The way I always look at it is that, for the amount I'll be getting - even if the rate changes a lot by currency standards, it will make, say, £10 difference to me either way - so it's not worth worrying too much over.

Agreed

I just looked and £500 would have got me 572 or todays rate 596. Nothing spectacular.

Any recommendations for the best place to get a good deal?
ATM with my bank card, bank, post office, money exchange, UK or abroad?

I've used M&S a fwe times before - they're not normally too bad (few quid in it perhaps).

Travelex online, assuming you're going through somewhere that has a Travelex bureau where you can collect it.

Other than that, check the overseas charges on your debit / credit cards, because they can be OK, but occasionally have hidden surprises.

Off to get mine today, I think. Must admit, for the amount I get, £600, the extra money from fluctuations, can be wiped out on the first snack break.

Mind you that makes it a free snack break, I suppose .
