Heads Up: BBC4 10 p.m. tonight Le Mans 1955 Disaster Doc
Discussion
Really interesting program, So tragic, death was such a part of motor racing back then, but this was a total tradgedy, We really do not accept the danger involved as cars today are so well designed and track design has evolved because of crashes of this magnitude, I know I will look down the start finish straight this year with a different view.
John Fitch - Pierre Levegh's team mate of the fateful Mercedes will be at Le Mans this weekend as part of the 50th anniversary of Corvette first racing at Le Mans in 1960. Fitch raced for the Cunningham Corvette team that finished 8th in 1960 and the #3 Corvette will also be at Le Mans all weekend too.
Expect to see the car on track on Saturday morning and also in the Parade du Pilotes on Friday and also at St. Saturnin at the Classic British Welcome.

Great documentary. What I found amazing was how very close to the track it was possible for the spectators to get.

Quite incredible. I was too was staggered at how close they were and how narrow the track was by the grandstands. AND they were stopping for refuelling etc. Nightmare. What a really amazing programme and the old cine/stills were just awesome. Those old mercs could still do 150 plus mph.R.
