Le Mans 2011 GT class.

Ive heard that the GT1 class will be dropped next year at Le Mans and i was wondering if someone could fill me in on any details on wether or not the group will be dropped all together or if the two GT1 and GT2 classes will be joined together in one big GT class?

There will be one big GT class with cars built to the GT2 spec used at this years Le Mans, it's called GTE and will be split into two group, the first being teams made up entirely of pro drivers the other group containing "Gentleman" drivers.

Oh great! I was getting sacred that they were cutting the GT1 class! If the cars are getting built to the GT2 spec then will they be losing power and grunt at all or just kept the same?

The current cars will be grandfathered for next year in both LMP and in the new GT Endurance category, which will be comprised of current GT2 entries. The rulebook eliminates the FIA's GT1 class, because of the lack of entries and conflicts with the FIA GT1 World Championship schedule.

The GT category will have two segments; one reserved for drivers designated as bronze or silver level, otherwise known as "gentlemen drivers." It will not allow the current practice of pairing the "gentlemen" with professionals.

They may be your favourite, but unfortunately there'd be sod all cars in the class. The ACO believes the current GT1 cars are not endurance racers, plus there will be date clashes with the new Intercontinental Cup and the GT1 World Championship.

As posted above, the GT-E class will be 2009 ACO GT2 spec cars (regs fixed until 2013), containing a GT-Pro class for new cars and pro divers and a GT-Am class for year old (at least) cars and Bronze or Silver ACO drivers. All cars will be allowed paddle shifts though.

And expect to see teh Porsche GT3 Hybid appear as the rules will allow that form of 4wd

yeah to be fair gt1 championship cars only do an hour at a time.
Well as long as the gt class stays with great variety, sounds and racing happy, still miss gt1 though

Not yet entirely clear if the new regs allow for Hybrids in the GT class. Soon to be clarified.
