Where the buggering hell was the camera?

We were pondering the lack of a visible police presence on the way back. Left the campsite at about 4pm and up to Calias by 9, and only saw one lot of Gendarmes although as they were hidden along with their victim we didn't have time to see what the had caught.
There is after all an advantage to a Hyundai 4x4, no danger of being caught speeding!

They are so well hidden, often you don't know until it's too late!I had a foolproof way of getting away with it this year. 130kph and cruise control on!
I got done by one of those "mystery" cameras on the way into Argentan en route to Caen. 135 kph in a 90 zone. However....... I knew I didn't go over 115kph. When I asked Le Plod to see the evidence he said "we do not have evidence" and that I "should belive him because he was plod".
Anyway, €90 lighter I thought I would just live with it and get home. I heard of 2 997's being done and €750 fines, licences confiscated and cars impounded until they could return with a friend who could drive their cars home......
Moral - probably best not to argue the toss! Just drive off safe in the knowledge that they are all dishonest w
kers. OK I was speeding but but to lie so the fine is higher and then have the audacity to refuse/deny evidence is wrong. Its just confirmed they were lying. IMO

My point is that I admitted to speeding. He was just full of st and charged me more. How's that fair?
The really galling thing is that on the autoroute I too had cruise on at 130kph. I was only overtaking a Frenchie with a trailer on a 300yd stretch of dual carriageway before I had to sit behind him for ages on the country roads!

Indeed. Nadgers is all you can say to it. At least the eurotunnel was only 50 quid so on balance a good value toll road really..
I didn't have the temerity to ask if having paid the fine whether that covered me for the rest of the journey back to the tunnel. Now THAT would have been civilised.

If Ben is referring to the Argentan trap, I was mystified by the thing. I was on that route to Caen to catch the 1945 fast crossing to Portsmouth. As I entered the town to go through, I approached a roundabout the Gendarmes were busy with English cars, two on the central reservation and two on the off side on the right.
They looked like if hell had been unleashed on them and the one driver was actually holding and shacking his head in disbelief. These we the chaps who had passed me on the Autoroute like if I was going in reverse some minutes earlier. I was on a bike so my attentions were focused on the scenery and speed, thankfully a lot of the French bikers were indicating as to high risk points. On a number of places I saw police bikes hat looked abandoned but that were actually supporting equipment.

Its was extremely sneaky. We were keeping a look out for a camera and there was simply noting. Thats why I think it was all based on HEARING the cars coming rather than actually catching them.
Luckily I was being very sensible apart from the bit of dual carriageway just before the Gendarmes.
There were 4 or 5 english bikes just leaving as they pulled me up the curb onto the central reservation. A French scooby came up the road fairly quickly and surprisingly (!) was allowed to continue.
I saw the trap on the autroute and went straight through with no trouble. The 997's were held at the last toll before Argentan.
Its says something when you can now go faster, "safer" in the UK than you can in France!!

I agree the sound must of being one thing. I clearly recall the Gendarmes face when he saw me approach the roundabout, he could do nothing as I had not broken the limit. Probably if he saw a longer than expected dive on my front suspension when stopping he might have stopped me and given me the same treatment.
Still some chaps were going a little to fast knowing that the traps could be anywhere. It makes me wonder if some of the people that were on the way along the roads in so called admiration mode with cameras were also informants to the Gendarme. One to ponder I believe????
