I went to Le Mans for the first time last year.

One of the highlights for me was the Mulsanne Straight on the friday. I know from some other posts that there are some idiots that can spoil things, but for me standing in the sun with a beer and watching quality cars drive by and the general great atmosphere is fantastic.

This year the police had bought things to a swift close by about lunch time which was really disapointing...

Did anyone else find anywhere else that was good on the friday this year (to go next year), if not is this the end of the Mulsanne friday??

Exactly the same thoughts here.
Last year was my first time, and i loved standing on the straight near the entrance to the track. By nord bleu. I wasn't too keen on them waterbombing the police, or 100k cars with their roofs down. I wasn't impressed when they got into someones camper and ragged all their stuff out either. But last year a few burnt outs and the odd drag race was fun. When i came back from SuperU on friday. 2 astons were drag racing. Both were instantly pulled aside by the police. Seemed alot harsher this year.

Same here, really pee'd off that the Police had stopped anything happening at Mulsanne, there was a lot happening down in the middle of the track at I think it's called Blue sud or there abouts.

I think it's because the chav element from previous years and complaints that the police kept their eyes on it this year.

I didn't like mad friday at all this year at Bleu

At first it was fun with nice cars coming by and little super soaker action as the CRS was on stand-by and confiscated super soakers and destroyed water bombs.
But strangely in the afternoon all CRS left the scene and it turned into a real mad friday which could have been a good one like on the old days, but a few *** destroyed it with the already mentioned actions.

Later CRS came back and regained control but I think they were too harsh. Everybody had to climb the wall at the Sud and they were not too friendly in telling people to move over. One older man was threatend with the stick and mildly touched at his kidneys when they told him to move over, some officers had their hands on the CS-gas bottles...

PS: One R8 smoked his clutch...

I had a cracking cruise along the Hunaudières early on Friday morning, but even by 9:30am there was a jolly Gendarme closing the road immediately after Mulsanne Corner and hence preventing the trip to Indianapolis & Arnage.

I took the advice to enjoy it early before it got a bit naughty.
