Did the Diesels Break the Rules?

I know this was briefly mentioned on Radio Le Mans and they said that Dave Richards wouldn't put an objection in but the photos here clearly show smoke from the diesels which is banned under the ACO rules....

Someone needs to kick up a stink, and not a horrible oily one either as it looks like we already had that.

I think the ACO rule on this is intended to prevent cars with a mechanical fault continuing in the race and causing a hazard for other vehicles. I think it would be very unlikely given who the culprits are that there will be any action on the the oil burners.

And of course, Aston would never run a direct injection system on the Lola-AMR, in contravention of their homologation, and thus breaking rules as well.

DR has a rather large bee in his bonnet about diesels, some would say understandably, some would say you've accepted your invite now get on with it. Were the diesels ever going to be picked up on it? No, the Peugeot 908's were smoking as much as the Audi R15+'s, as the article says.

I watched it on telly & the Audi's were obviously running afr's well into lambda terrortority, it was quite obvious on the telly at many many times. Until it was pointed here I did'nt realise there was a rule about it.

Same here, especially obvious in dawn/dusk light under the Dunlop bridge. Never realised it was a problem.

Noticed it too, and we were discussing it over the weekend as it wasn't something I'd noticed previously. Interesting to then read the article today on the Racecar Engineering site which flagged it as a potential issue.

I noticed during one of the Peugeot pit stops they had two wheel guns putting the wheels on, on the right side of the car which wasn't picked up by the ACO or mentioned by the Eurosport commentators.

Also the #2 leading Peugeot driver had outside assistance in trying to remove the rear bodywork which was when he got the phone call from the pits saying the race was over as Eurosport clearly should a photographer helping the driver trying to remove the bodywork. I didn't understand why after the marshalls had put out the fire on the right side the driver didn't carry on trying to drive the car around to the pits as I drove about 100 miles with a blown turbo on my car and granted it did make a lot of smoke but off boost the engine will still work without the turbo provided it hadn't melted the electrics.

If the Peugeots had jet power, took a short cut through the woods and employed Dick Darstardly to stop everyone else winning, the ACO wouldn't but an eyelid so a bit of smoke from their cars wont interest them a bit.
