Sorry to take the wind out of your sails on this but my recommendation would have been to start looking about five years ago. Hotels in and around LM - up to about 80km away - tend to be booked year on year and the only way to get on the schedule is to strike lucky when someone fails to rebook or confirm a booking. We have stayed at the same place for the last twenty odd years now and see the same faces year in/year out. You will also be up against the French hoteliers' reluctance to take a booking before the new year begins.
However, look at the local tourist board sites for La Sarthe, look at the Michelin guide and start telephoning and faxing now. And if a team expresses an interest in your chosen hotel - after you have booked - don't be surprised to be unbooked.

We tried the hotel thing one year....and as the others have said, no where near as good. There's nothing like falling asleep to the sound of V8's etc charging past and then waking up in the early fresh morning to the same sounds. Much better than being woken up by some irate old french woman wanting to change the bed sheets (wouldnt be bad at all if they looked like the french maids in many porn films....but they dont, ever). Camp.
I was going to pre-empt the predictable wimpy-esque comments in my original post but decided not to bother as that could have also be seen as a red flag to a bull.
However the reasons are

3 We are both of advancing years

2 Women can camp nowadays...ever since the burning of bra's a while back they've gotten quite an independancy going.
3 Cant be that advanced if your used to putting the Westfield in a bed at night....I struggle to put my self to bed at times, albeit alcohol induced normaly on those occassions :lol:

Erm... that sounds like camping without the convenience to me. If you're going to suffer the difficulty of sleeping in a car at the circuit then it's not exactly a stretch to throw out a tent and at least have some facilities and privacy! Unless by car you mean campervan

There are a lot of people with Westfield type cars, and there are a lot of people of advancing years at Le Mans. If you book into one of the organised sections rather than amongst the rabble then it can be relatively civilised. And it's so much more fun 1 Will be in a Westfield

you can get in the hotel arbor just got a quote 355euros per night based on for two you need to email them for a price and then book! Expensive for a two star im gonna stay at le bounty instead i reccon!
I agree, stayed there for a few years nowInfact thinking of only getting the Arnage ticket next year and the hotel
Why all the hassle of getting into the main part.
355 euro per night ain't cheap if you are staying for five or six nights, especially if you don't actually use the room one night.
Our room this year was 110 euro per night which is not too bad but only five years ago it was 25 euro.
Depending how close you want to be to the circuit, you could try our hotel which is an easy thirty minute drive away - pm me if you are interested

I think you can gauge the issues here, lack of rooms, high cost if found, trouble getting to the circuit. On option I saw this year is offered by Travel destinations where you can have a mobile room in BSJ. Looks like a portacabin, probbaly hot and sweaty, very expensive, but an option. Also depending on size of wallet get a mobile home delivered.

They are about 600 quid per person for the whole duration. At that price id rather camp. This year we stayed at the Travel Destinations campsite who also supply these cabins.
