Le Mans Photo Competition - The Winners
The results are in and we have a winner
A few weeks before the Le Mans 24, we asked PHers to submit photos from the event that they felt 'best captured the spirit of Le Mans' and, sure enough, we received a lovely selection of photographs. And that meant choosing the winners was not an easy task.
But choose we did, and the five pictures chosen really do capture the spirit that makes the annual trip to the event a must for PHers. The winning picture seems to have it all: patriotism, racing, crowds and celebration. What it lacks in beers and partying is more than made up by the 'I wish I was there' feeling the picture instills in you. Well done to andyjb, who took this picture as the national anthem was playing.

Andy wins a VIP trip to the Autosport 1000km of Silverstone taking plce in September
Runners-up receive a collection of Le Mans yearbooks, starting with the 2005 edition and running through to 2009. In addition, they will receive a host of other Le Mans goodies too.
The first runner-up is buckeroodle with the classic 'brolly and TVR' shot - there is only one way to dodge a rain shower in Le Mans and it doesn't involve putting the roof up!

Another runner-up is stumpy67, who takes the tradition of a beer mountain to a new and artistic level. We're not sure how this was made, but it looks great and it must have been fun creating enough empties.

markmullen takes a bow for this fantastic night racing picture of the number 89 Ferrari. Le Mans is all about the night racing and this picture captures the moment perfectly.

Finally, Man-At-Arms gets a mention for another photo that did as we asked and captured that spirit of Le Mans that can't be found anywhere else. Where else would you find someone who would go to all this effort for a couple of nights on a make-shift campsite? Fantastic stuff.

Thanks to everyone who entered, enjoy your prizes and we'll see you at the 24 next year.

Some balding bloke with a Union Jack in his arms in a grandstand and not even a bit of a car. I don't think so.
Could have been anywhere, even a bledding football match.
Much better shots in the thread, including Mr Mullens.
Sorry Guys. Fail.
No offence to the photographer like but that could have been taken at any sporting event anywhere in the world.
It contains nothing at all that suggests it was taken at a motor race let alone at Le Mans.
Bit mystified how that was selected as the winner tbh.

At the end of the day, it wasn't purely a photographic skill competition but a genral snappers comp, if it was then the outcome might have been different. Sorry for any upset but we do love all of the images we selected, all were excellent.

You can quite clearly see the Rolex advertising boards on the other side of the track as well as the national flags on top of the grandstand. You can also see the pits. OK, all of these elements of the phot are out of focus, but that adds to the image IMO.
Great photo, out of the box thinking and IMO a deserved winner.

There was a great photo of my feet as I was walking allong the bottle stroon path in the past

A regular vistor may recognise the background, but it says nothing to anyone who has yet to visit (Or to pursuade them to visit)
HTH
Mark's image is good but as were many of the car-based images submitted, and I don't think he was robbed as so many people have said. As a first-timer to Le Mans this year what made it for me was not the cars alone, it was the atmosphere, camaraderie, the driving in convoy with your mates, the stickering up of the cars beforehand... plus there were many fantastic racing shots taken whereas the other runners up were a bit different, and so to me it's the other three runners up that I prefer.
No disrespect to Mark, it's a great pic, but I think it takes away from the other runners up a bit to keep saying he should have won.
Maybe therein lies the 'problem' - Define that in just one photo????
