2011 Eurotunnel Booked for Le Mans

We are on the same booking as you, thursday 9.20hrs but coming back a bit later at 18.50hrs as we will be a little slower than your Lotus as we will be in our motorhome for the 1st time ever. Going to miss the drive down...........
I was quite impressed with the price of £112 for a 7m motorhome, a lot cheaper than P&O and Seafrance and much quicker. Well done Eurotunnel.

Took dad's motorhome to the Classic last year and was surprised how much longer it took us to get there / back, and we weren't hanging around. But 60-65mph compared to 80-85mph and a few less stops seems to make a difference.But the benefits when you're there more than make up for the slower journeys.

I've done the Monday return trip from Le Mans to Le Shuttle on many occasions and getting there from Le Mans by the time of your booking should be straightforward, given you must leave at a reasonable time, there's no road problems, and crucially you check in no later than the deadline to check in for your booking. A few years ago there were road works on the motorway close to Calais and this delayed quite a few people. Due to Le Shuttle being fully booked for the Monday afternoon and evening, it was estimated that having missed a booked slot the next available train was six hours later.

I've done the Monday return trip from Le Mans to Le Shuttle on many occasions and getting there from Le Mans by the time of your booking should be straightforward, given you must leave at a reasonable time, there's no road problems, and crucially you check in no later than the deadline to check in for your booking. Due to Le Shuttle being fully booked for the Monday afternoon and evening, it was estimated that having missed a booked slot the next available train was six hours later.

If you're aiming for the 16:20, check in is probably 15:50 latest, but as it will be extremely busy at Le Shuttle I'd aim to get their earlier, say 15:30. So your Le Mans departure time needs to be based around this, and depends on whether you're going to blast to Calais or take your time. Oh, by the way, the toll on the motorway south of Rouen and then again near Boulogne will be very busy so you'll need to allow extra time, maybe an hour or so, for this too if you're planning to use the motorways all the way back to Calais.
My son and I are booked on the 15:20 but we'll be travelling from Falaise which is a bit nearer than Le Mans and avoids Rouen. We'll probably set off at around 08:30 and maybe have time for lunch near to Boulogne.

Obviously it depends what you're driving, but we usually leave Le Mans around 8.00am and have easily made the 13.42 crossing, usually an earlier one, without going silly on the autoroute. And as for check-in times, allow *at least* an hour before departure to check-in because the queues to get through passport control can be very slow moving.
