2011 Regulations

Looks like Audi has a brand new car .. with a new 3.8 V6 diesel ..

Anyone know in a nutshell what the regulations for this years race are .. I looked back a few pages but could not find out any clues !

Will the petrol cars have a chance ?

My understanding

LMP1 is more or less like the old LMP2 LMP2 is the same as previously but with production based engines and will be slower more like FLM

No GT1

GT2 becomes GTE

So the amateur GTE cars will be slightly quieter as well as GTE cars now allowed paddle shift operation.

Why don't the ACO just say bks to the noise and also enforce manual boxes: less to go wrong over 24 hours and focus is well and truly placed on the driver with missed gears, wrongly matched downshifts etc.

I don't want development to stop obviously, but we go to hear and see the cars and drivers race, not sit and push buttons to change gear and twiddle traction control nobs.

I'm not saying I could do it by any means, that's why I'm sitting here and those guys are out there doing it, I just think It'd be nice to see a set of regs that are a little more driver-skill oriented.

actually paddle shift is quite reliable and avoids a lot of problems for the engine (over reving due to missed gears etc) so in the long run it saves money
