Not a prayer. Change your ideas and take the fast boat, the Norman Arrow, from Portsouth to Le Havre. Less than half the price of Brittany Ferries, and reasonable times available. I've just booked the other way - going to the Silverstone Classic in July - from le Havre/Portsouth and compared the two. Cherbourg/Portsmouth with BF was 389 euros, Le Havre/Portsmouth with LD was 226 euros. Overnight with BF from Caen was over 600
Best deal I've found so far is £258 return Portsmouth to Caen using the Tuesday overnight sailing and returning the following Tuesday (8.30am sailing). The price skyrockets for a shorter trip though.
Compares with £180 - £210 for the LD Lines Portsmouth-Le Havre route.

Go Brittany. I've done Dover/Calais and the Tunnel but prefer the comfort and eas of Portsmouth/Caen. Nice drive down to LM, nice roads, great locals waving at you. For discount codes look for B&B's in Caen and check for their codes. A lot list them on their sites, but for some ask for a quote or something as they send them back in an email footer. I've saved £35+ each time which is about 10 miles of fuel in the Vette but worthwhile.

I reckon it saves well over £150 in fuel avoiding the run to Dover and the Calais - Rouen section. Next year I must remember some form of alarm as we were woken by the cleaner and fortunately held nobody up leaving the ferry.Got to agree, overnight Pompy to Caen makes sense as it cuts down driving time, fuel, tolls etc, but, if you want breakfast, get up very early. They don't cook enough and the queue is very long. The early start (for me anyway) negates the benefit of the berth overnight.
This year we're using the fast boat at 7.30am to Cherbourg. 3 hour crossing, 3 hours drive to Le Mans, beer, pitch, beer, wine, food, beer, all before evening qualifying.

Done it in the past, roads were good thenReally it all depends on how many £'s you have in your pocket, how much you want to spend, the comfort and how far you want to drive in France.
LD overnight ferry from Portsmouth. Leaves 11pm arrives 8am French time Le Havre. Easy 3 hour drive to Le Mans.
Return can either be ferry or in May the fast cat returns (hope they have found a better driver this year and can avoid crashing it)
