How to do it right

I've never been to LeMans before and I need your advice on getting the most out of it.

I've searched the forums and read over the 156 page Club Arange handbook but I'd love to get a bit of healthy debate on the best things to do/see or avoid at LeMans 2011.

So far I've booked my flights from Dublin to Paris and picking up either a fast rental car or a transit to sleep in! Next up is trying to get a grasp on the different campsites this week and sort something out.

Any and all advice is much appreciated.

I would advise getting your camping sorted before anything else. All the best sites will probably be sold out with the agents by now, unless you are lucky enough to get a cancellation. However, all is not lost. Rather than just going with what you can get, I would keep an eye on here, Club Arnage, Beermountain.com and EBay. There will be groups and individuals selling off unwanted pitches for just about everywhere so can still get a good spot.

Maison Blanche is my pick of the sites, I've not stayed on Houx, but that is popular too.

Avoid the wkers on Friday and go to the PH or Great British Welcome (or both). Get on the tram and get pissed whilst watching the driver's parade on Friday night.

Don't forget to do the open pitlane all day Friday, and watch your valuables like a hawk.

We stay in Houx because it has 240v hook up and we're old gits who like cold beer and hot food, rather than the other way around!!

SpeedChills still had some Houx (non numbered) pitches left as of last Friday but they're going fast. £99 for the camping pitch, plus £65pp General Admission tickets. I'd call them quick though.

I would agree with maison blanc will be there this year although most of the campsites are good in there own way,

I would say must see's are

drivers parade
mad friday (get a beer and a seat and just watch), DO NOT USE YOUR CAR!!!!!!
arnage/ mulsan on the saturday night
drivers parade
qualifying on the thrsday night as great time for photos!

and saint satanin (???spelling???) havent been but will do this year looks amazing!

Hey Velocitas
Try looking on a website called "club valan". We stayed there last year, its on the airport with a shuttle bus to the main entrance at the track. We paid just shy of £300 which included food and tickets. Will not be attending this year due to being banned from driving in france after last years trip!

Another place to try would be 'clubmotorsport'. Small Brit run campsite 10 mins by car from circuit. Food/camping package only though.

Try ACO for camping tickets, or here usually sees a few people selling from cancellations nearer the race. eBay can be a rip off.

I've booked a site in Houx and I decided to get General Admission tickets using the money saved on Grandstand tickets on drink instead.

Now all that's left is to go and buy a cheap tent and find somewhere in Paris to rent a fast car!

If you decide you need even more money for booze, you could always take the TGV to Le Mans. Obviously a fast motor is more in the spirit of things. I beleieve THE place to get all your supplies is the Carrefour supermarket just north of Tetre Rouge. There is literally nothing that you can't buy there.

Hired a Bentley from them a few years ago. Not cheap and the excess was excessive compared to over hear. Make sure you have the capacity on the credit card as they won't take switch or visa debit.

Don't forget to ask about milage. Typically Limited to 150 miles per day and the extra miles were charged at 15 euro per mile. Luckily we didn't go too far.

I'd come over for the test day before to get a glipse of the situation, geographically. Consider the traffic will be loads worse during the event though.
