My wife normally comes down to Le Mans and back by Eurostar and TGV, whilst I drive the car with camping gear, and a friend.

However this year the train times have changed with the result tht the only train she can get out goes from St Pancras, and on the return she has to get off at Ashford as by the time it gets to St Pancras its too late to catch the last train home.

I am already booked on the ferry for one car plus 2 passengers each way. Is it possible for me to add my wife as a passenger on the return leg, or am I better waiting to do it at the port when I get there?

Ring the company, the options vary by operator & by crossing. For Dover/Calais crossings I don't think they care how many passengers you have.

We've changed the number and names of passengers numerous times with P&O Dover-Calais and never had an issue, or bean charged extra. It will speed things up if you sort it out in advance though as they use ANPR cameras to have the booking details ready when you reach the booth, if they don't match you'll have to wait a minute or two while they update the details. Can't speak for the other lines though.

Yes same as mellow yellow, never had an issue turning up even with a different car that was on the initial booking. They just update the details at the booth.

So why can't the airlines be as obliging, it isn't as if they are giving the flights or whatever away is it ?

The channel crossing operators get my vote any day for user friendliness.
