Things to look out for when buying a Corsa

In all seriousness, a Corsa for a first car has to be a fairly atrocious idea purely based on what the insurance will be. Have you considered looking at more leftfield options?
The Corsa is pretty much the cheapest insurance i've been quoted for a modern(ish)carAs above, go with pretty much anything else.
Still, if you insist, I'd be tempted to have a look see if an auction near you is getting rid of any Lex Defence stuff. They come without numberplates so are a bit of hassle but you should get a nice, solid 1.2 Corsa for about £1500. It'll be a 2006ish car too and in fine fettle.

To be more serious, when I (stupidly) briefly considered one myself, I found out that some 1.2 engines had a short life because their camshaft bearing cap bolts weren't done up properly. Else it's just a little car and the normal rules apply - check for rust, water leaking in, knocks when driving etc.
I think something else would be better value for the money. A Fiesta of the same year for instance would probably be cheaper to buy and I have been so told that the Corsa doesn't handle as well, can anyone confirm?

low mileage as with any vauxhall anything under 40k
get an original car, nothing thats been modified or bastardised
a good service history, Corsa's are favoured by a lot of individuals who seem to think insurance /tax /servicing are irrelevant to car ownership

Not a fan of French cars particularly - bad experiences in the past. I was thinking it would be cheap parts/repair on the CorsaIn all honesty the Corsas I've been in have been less than impressive with no redeeming features.

The usual things like rust around the arches and electrical gremlins were the only things my GF's car suffered from.

The insurance was a couple of hundred more a year, i've looked at pretty much everything small (except the Matiz) and the Corsa came out cheapest - maybe just an anomaly for me.
