Vauxhall Omega 3.0 & 3.2 v6 mv6. What are they like?
Discussion
Hi all
Ive never been a fan of omegas or vauxhalls in total
Ive been looking into omegas with the big v6's in and i dont do alot of miles as i always use my cars that are for sale to drive around in anyway so would be nice to have something fast
are they unreliable? I know nothing about them despite being in the trade for a while

They're not all that fast though, and the engines aren't that big. Ive never been a fan of omegas or vauxhalls in total

If you want big engines and performance in a saloon, go 4.0+ (generally). Then you'll at least be able to keep up with todays hot hatches...
I have had several in my time and I agree with the other poster, not very quick. fastest is the 3.2 with 0-60 of 8 seconds. Being NA there isnt much you can do to increase the power output.
They are fantastic waftmobiles though and very comfy (in Elite guise at least) and dont handle too badly , I certainly used to chuck mine around.
Parts are very cheap if you get a trade club card (£10 from www.autobahnstormers.org), and they are pretty robust. Go to www.omegaowners.com for proper advice, very helpful people.
The only real problem is the wishbone bushes , Omegas tend to eat them maybe every 20k miles , but they are only around £70 a side plus fitting maybe an hours labour. I used a local garage and supplied my own parts so running costs for me were very low.
Also cambelt change every 40k which can be a few ££

If you can get a late 3.2 then they rumble along quite nicely. Pretty much the same overall performance as a modern BMW 320D, make quite a nice sound, and on a decent run you should be able to coax 30 mpg out of one. They handle quite nicely in a big-barge way, and the MV6 is lowered and stiffened a bit.
Rust and electrical grief are the big things to watch out for. They are only about 60% galvanised. The MV6 has a lot fewer toys than the 3.2 Elite, so is probably a safer buy in terms of electrics.

Former owner of a 3.0 elite (manual!). Elite the preferred spec IMO
Excellent car, very comfy, cost quite a bit in cambelt - important to do all the pipework at the same time at the back of engine, as the pressure builds and lifts the HG mayoing the oil.
Performance was decent, but they are heavy factor in consumables of wishbones and tyres

Thread resurrection.
What are 3.2 MV6s like?
Purchased October 2016, with 163k on the clock.
Now with 231K on the clock.
All I can say is its the best car I've ever owned.
Not the most reliable, but ive fixed all the common faults and the only time it let me down was due to a bad mechanic doing something stupid.

I've only had one Vauxhall in over fifty years driving( 1988 Cavalier LX company car, very happy with it). My boss at the time had an Omega, I did many long journeys with him in it , brilliant big comfy cruising machine. I don't recall any major problems with it. I expect they'll seem a bit smaller now than they did then.
Omega 3.0 and 3.2 V6's? Yeah, actually a pretty good car. Roomy, smooth, swift (NOT fast) and handle well with a great balance.
Cheap as chips and parts easily available! Headroom isnt great and they are getting on now, but seriously underrated cars!
And did you know they rebranded them as Cadillacs in the US?
