Cars with genuine 800+mile range on 1 tank of fuel

Morning all,
I'll potentially be starting to drive to work in the next couple of months and it will be 800miles of driving per month. I was wondering what cars have the range for me to have the novelty of only needing the fill the car up once every month? Although lots of new cars get great mpg they have also got smaller fuel tanks than older cars so the range off one tank is often not this huge.

The Mk4 Mondeo I used to drive as company said it would do that, best I got out of it was about 700 though.

I know the A8 TDi will do it, but the size of the tank will probably mean a second mortgage, you'd have to really hate filling up vs buying a car with a smaller tank and better MPG and just going back every few days

Depends on the type of driving? Do you mean a straight 800 mile cruise or just daily use over an extended period?

Recently did nearly 800 miles on a single tank in a current Civic 1.6 Diesel.

Sat on a motorway it'll easily do 70 MPG+

My record in my Bluemotion Passat was 1150miles on a single tank. That did involve driving like Miss Daisy but it could be done, and on work's time I wasn't bothered.

Easy enough to do in a modern turbodiesel, as long as you´re into tailgating trucks and self-harming, as this is what driving at 56 mph on the m/way will result in.

Of course this being PH you meant to say you have a daily milage of 800 miles

To clarify it will be 40miles/day on A road/dual carriageway and I don't tend to drive like Miss Daisy's chauffeur but just going at a steady pace. Thankfully not 1 800mile journey!

I have considered an electric car but I'd have to work out the number given the extra initial cost as none of them are particularly cheap to buy it the first place from what I've seen

Usually the prices listed on UK sites are post-grant.

Something like an Ampera might be a good bet for that sort of commute. The electric only range is perhaps borderline for that commute (unless you can plug it in at work) but you certainly wouldn't use more than a tiny amount of petrol getting to work and back. It would mean that you could go on longer trips if you needed to.

800 miles a month is less than 10,000 miles per year. I don't think it's worth getting a diesel for that kind of mileage.

A 306 HDI would get close.

I used to get 650 miles from a tank without the fuel light coming on and on a less than ideal run for economy.

A Toyota Auris Hybrid will get fairly close to that.

With Careful driving, I've been able to get 700+ Miles out of a diesel 1.6 focus. used that for a commute for a couple of years.

Now I am currently doing the same journey but in an impreza, leaving the focus sat at home. My fuel costs on a commute have doubled!

With 44 cold starts I doubt there are many vehicles that could do all those journeys without needing a fill.

For sub-10k miles I'd be looking at something a bit more fun.
