Another new car thread 15k...possible XF

My dad is retiring in January and has about 15k he wants to spend on a car. He's a big Jag fan currently drives a 55 reg X-type which hell part ex. Obvious replacement is an XF he'll only be doing about 5k a year any other options we should consider I did think XK but might struggle in budget.

Any advice on the XF is the 3.0d the car to go for? Cheers.

I got my dad to buy a used XF last year.
60 plate Bali blue 3.0 premium luxury model.

He loves it, it's got 240bhp and the 6 speed auto. It's a lot quicker than the Mondeos he's run in the past, still does 40mpg and is quiet and comfy on the motorway with a great sound system.

Had an issue with water getting in the boot over the fuse box and the air con doesn't work properly.
Overall he's happy with it and we have a great Jaguar specialist near us who takes care of servicing etc.
He got the belts done a few months ago with genuine parts and wheel alignment for under £550.

Sounds like it'll fit the bill how much did you pay for it and how many miles if you don't mind me asking?

If he's only doing 5K a year then he's probably better off going for one of the big petrol supercharged versions over the diesels, for great smileage and lack of DPF borkage.

A nice, well maintained and low mileage 3.0 V6 petrol should be in his budget, they were available until the 2011 facelift when they were replaced with the supercharged V6, although they'll probably be out of budget.

I'd run a mile from a diesel at them miles.

Get an earlier 3.0 V6 petrol well under budget, an early 4.2 V8 or SV8 Supercharged under budget, a later 5.0 NA for about bang on budget or a very leggy XFR for the same.

The SV8 probably represents best value.

£10,500 for the car on 104k. Full Main dealer history. Came from a place that sells lots of premium cars.
Had matching Dunlops all round, whereas the XF S they also had, was wearing a full set of Wanli budgets.

I always look at tyres as a good key of how a cars been treated. If it has cheap tyres, what else has been done cheap.

The 3.0 is shared with Land Rover for the D4 and RRS. It's a pretty strong reliable engine.
Like everything, servicing is key.

I'd say an SV8 would be a good option or the N/A 4.2 V8 would be well worth a look.

Wow that first SV8 seems too cheap lovely car I think the R is too likely to throw up huge bills. Are the SV8s reliable? Or are they also likely to produce huge bills?

Both engines are pretty robust from what I've seen the 4.2 has been around since the Jaguar S Type so they're both worth looking at, condition & lots of receipts will settle it but both are very worthy of consideration.

In terms of price the price being asked seems to be fair, I'd say it's priced to sell so now you need to go & have a look.

The only concern is part service history
