Folks I'm in a bit of a quandry now about what to replace my 4.5 Cerbera with.
Although the TVR was awesome, it just cost far too much to keep on the road, in excess of £3k a year just keeping the thing mechanically running, never mind TAX, Insurance and fuel.
So it's gone and I'm after something easier and cheaper to maintain, sorry I mean for a garage to maintain!
The car will be a toy and not a daily but I will be doing a fair amount of mileage a year, I managed 22k in the 2 years I had the TVR, I'm a member of the Sporting Bears so use it to give charity dreamrides to members of the public so it needs to be something that looks good and performs well once they're a passenger. I'm also one of the directors of Rally for Heroes in which we take upto 50 cars 3000 miles across Europe so need something capable of keeping up with the pack when in Germany etc.

Budget is around £30k obviously lower would be better as I can buy the other half some flowers with the change to keep her sweet.

I've had a go in the new Mustang and was left cold, but I do still like the previous models.
I'm not really a Porsche man unless its something that looks special which unfortunately normally costs a lot more than £30k(GT3 etc)
I've seen maserati granturismos are nudging the 30s, but am I still going to be paying out huge amounts a year to keep them on the road like the TVR?
At the moment having previously owned a few XFs, I'm erring to the Jaguar 5ltr XKRs as it ticks most of the boxes.

Any other thoughts/suggestions from the PH collective?

I always got he impression that an NSX wouldn't be unreliable or too ruinously expensive to maintain.

Or a C6 Corvette possibly? Could save quite a chunk from 30k too...

You are just into the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and Lotus Evora market with that budget and both will suffer minimal depreciation.

Maserati Gransport is a good shout & well worth a look 11k a year will mean around £800-1000 in maintenance find a good indie.

Or if you want another british V8 then what about a Lotus Esprit

Or a bit more normal:

IS-F
M3
C63 etc

I would probably go for an Aston V8V or the fastest Corvette in budget.

Both very different cars and I'm unsure that the Aston will be any cheaper to keep running than the TVR.

If you would like to stay with TVR and minimise maintenance costs, you could go for a Chim/Griff 500 or a turbocharged one.

Jag XKR, E92 M3, Lotus Exige, Evora, Porsche 997 911, Aston DB7, C63...

Personally I'd go for an M3 or Exige, although I can imagine the Exige not being the ideal long distance traveller!!

Thanks for the ideas folks.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm afraid I'm not interested in saloons etc. It needs to be be something that looks the part for the charity rides. Will look into Lotus but not feeling drawn to them for some reason.
The corvette idea appealed and heaven forbid I've been drawn to the C3 which I'm not sure will actually be an improvement on maintenance over the TVR, but we'll see.
Meantime I'm just keeping an eye on the classifieds at C6s and XKRs

RS5? Although if the Mustang left you cold then this probably would too.

I had a Cerbera ( and 3 other TVR's), also had the Granturismo......now on my second Noble ( currently 9 years of ownership on my M400)... you simply must try one.

A Morgan 3 Wheeler?
Perhaps not great on a long journey, but you will have a queue around the block for charity rides...

If not - how about a "normal" Morgan (I use that term loosely) biggrin
