I'm looking for a car at the moment with the following requirements:
  • Automatic
  • AWD
  • 6+ cylinders, petrol > diesel though would consider either
  • Big
  • Comfy
  • Quick
  • Cruise Control
  • Heated Seats
  • Fairly reliable
  • Cheaper the better
I've been considering many options including the Audi A4, A6 and A8 Quattros, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Landcruiser Amazon, Range Rover TDV8 etc though today I have been looking at the Subaru Legacy Outback 3.0 R and I think it might be the ideal bet. Audis are expensive for the newer models though I do like them, Jeeps are great but not the best road drive, Landcruisers are slow and expensive (but awesome), Range Rovers are a terrible idea however tempting. Is there anything I've missed and any reason not to buy an outback? They seem a bargain for what you get and meet all the criteria very nicely.

I've been looking for a replacement dog van/winter car and I think I've also settled on the Subaru legacy as a good candidate as they seem to be pretty tough with a decent spec.
I've driven the 2.5l, it was comfortable and handled well but not hugely fast. Another option would be the Forester as they can be had for similar money.

I was looking at Honda CRVs but the legacy looks more fun with a bigger boot.
