So collecting new car on Friday and dealer did a U turn on plate transfer on the day and told me to do it before and pay a deposit which they will refund once send the new V5

So did the transfer online expecting to have to wait for DVLA to take days but no had conformation straight away!!

Do I have to put the old number back on the car now or can I wait until I receive the V5

Only ask as don't want to change insurance again and new car is 50 miles away!

I'm sure the paperwork tells you to do it right now.

Just used it yesterday, the confirmation told me to put the new plate on straight away. I un-SORNed the car (taxed it on the old plate), did the plate transfer then took out the insurance under the new plate. Saved me the £25-50 admin fee to change a plate with the insurers, the DVLA have really got their act together!

So have decided best stay within the law and change the plate over. Phoned insurance company who said they will make a note on the policy for the next 24 hours as can't change policy again as pending change in for midnight for the new car tomorrow. The change won't show up on MID database but they will confirm note on policy if plod pulls me over!!! After years of pain changing plates trust the DVLA to get there act together and move this fast!!!

So to the garage to dig out the old VRN and put them on the car and fingers crossed I don't get pulled on route to the garage tomorrow!!

Thanks for all your reply's
