With reference to my previous "which car" post..."Which (refined) GT/Coupe please?"

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

We ended up selling both my Alpina B3 Bi-turbo and the wife's Golf TDi to fund a BMW 640d for our road-trip to the south of Spain and back.
The 640 was ideal for this with good luggage space, a refined cabin and the 'adaptive drive' suspension which gave adjustable damping comfort/sport etc. Also, with the torquey twin-turbo diesel it gives a nice smooth drive, decent turn of pace and even sounds good for a diesel!
My only reservations are the size and potential depreciation, which brings me to my question!...

Is there a car out there that offers good comfort (ride/cabin noise) decent luggage space and will hold it's money well or even has the potential to appreciate (I sold my previous two: B3 and 996 C2 for more than I paid, which was nice) and that isn't too bad on running costs but also a bit smaller than the 640? Or are we better off just keeping the 640 and saving the extra we'd spend as we'd also need something else for the wife to commute in!

My initial though was a 997.2 but they appear to be around the 38/40k mark, which being about 10k more than the 640 would probably negate the depreciation in that anyway! So maybe 20-30k is more realistic.

I've probably over complicated the question!....I suppose to try and summarise; it's a comfy/refined sports/GT (with luggage space) that doesn't cost loads to run and holds it's money or will (hopefully) appreciate.

Thanks in advance for any input smile

PS. My initial ideas which I would welcome comments on!...

V8 Vantage
DB9
996 Turbo
XKR 5.0
E90 M3
C63 AMG
997.2

PPS. forgot to say probably an auto (unfortunately) for health reasons.

I don't see SL55 AMGs going any lower. So I bought one. Could be too old for OPs requirements, I don't know.

It's a bit late for buyer's remorse! And it's virtually impossible to save money by buying a new car.

Not buyers remorse at all!...the 640 is a good car and, as stated did a great job, just considering possible options, hence my post! smile

I saw an XKR-S at Anglia Car Auctions this week with an estimate of less than £25k

Other to consider is some of the bigger engined SL's or Maserati
