Which VAG Turbo engine to go for?

Good Afternoon PH,

I have just had a change of circumstances & will be getting rid of my Cooper D in the next couple of months (THANK THE HEAVENS!!!)

I want something with quite a bit of power & was thinking of spending under 5k. Preferably petrol, manual & with a turbo, my current top three are the MK5 Golf GTI & MK1 Audi TT 225 Quattro / S3 225 Quattro.

Mostly because they all seem to respond very well to remaps (I will most likely remap whatever car is next but i'm unlikely to take it past stage 1.)

Has anyone had experience of the above cars modified/stock? Or would you reccomend a better equivelent.

MK5 is the 2.0 whereas the other two are the 1.8 which had a tendency to go through coil packs which you chose is down to what car you prefer, I have to say for 5k I'd be looking at the 2.5T Focus ST

Good Point actually, after doing some digging they can go through coil packs :/

I may end up looking at the MK5 golf then, my only issue with the focus is they have a tendency to drink petrol & i'm not that keen on the interior.

Don't forget the Cupra Leon (same engine as the Golf)
