I currently have an Evo VI TME but have spotted the perfect Impreza WRX STI Type R for me.

Thoughts, keep the Evo or change to the Type R? Has anyone owned both and what are pros and cons of the Type R over the Evo to own (I have driven a few type R's in the past, so I know the power deliver is quite different)? As a potential replacement to the Evo, this would be just a summer car to blast around B roads up here, take to shows/club meets and track a couple of times a year.

I'll put a link to the Impreza in question from Pistonheads classifieds as per below:

I've not owned an Evo so can't comment on your main question, but the five-speed on that Type R is on borrowed time...you really need a six-speed at that torque level. Otherwise it is a very nice spec indeed.

That Type R looks the business. I bet it sounds amazing and must be an incredible thing to drive. That high RPM action must be a delight.

Again, sorry no Evo comparison but lovely as it looks I agree with Plenty, that box is going at some point soon. If you are into modified ones there is a chap called Banny on scoobynet flogging a well cared for 600bhp one for similar cash, it frequents the same garage as mine. If you are looking for a more standard one then 8k-10k should get you something well worth owning, though do look at Type RA as well.

Can't the for sale thread but this is the chap. http://www.scoobynet.com/member.php?u=43815

Thanks for the input, there is the option of a 6 speed box with that car as per the add, albeit at an additional cost, can anyone advise what a fair price would be for the 6 speed?

My evolution is at 370/350 but lacks the top end excitement which the Type R has, and at the moment I can't really justify spending thousands on the mak to get it where I'd like.

I'll give them a call tomorrow, it depends on what they can offer for a trade in, 400+ miles away too doesn't help either.

Price wise is the car in question reasonable or slightly over priced? The market is hard to judge at the moment, I'd be looking for £14k for my evolution if it was going to be sold privately.

It's a shame you didn't check Scoobynet in August as the seller only wanted 9k for it. I personally couldn't spend 14k on a car I could have got for 9 a few months ago.

Wow, I wish I had seen that, however I am in no rush to see the back of the Evo, interesting what they will come back with for a trade in for mines, £5K mark-up! I think I will be better off selling the Evo privately, not really the type of car to trade in.

Well at least I know what they paid for it approximately.

Any other Type R's for sale on Scooby net??

Neil, are you selling your TME?

Oddly, we share a surname and a county. I've had a 450bhp P1 and looking for an Evo vi. You've got an Evo vivand looking for a fast subaru.

Weird.

Are you still on the look out for a Type R?

Owned one, nice car but really you want to find one of the MY00 STI Type R Limited models with the quick rack steering (13:1), trust me it makes ALL the difference over the fast rack (15:1) which feels a little numb in comparison, and as you cannot pick up a classic quick rack any more (they are like rocking horse poo), it pays to get one on the car already.

Go drive a few type R's and if you cannot find an MY00 Limited then go test out either an MY99 or MY00 STI Type RA and you will see what I mean smile
