Wondering how many miles these can do before major issues arise, been offered a 57 plate with 140k as a cheap runabout (500 quid), car is tidy but will it last much longer!, been regularly serviced with good oil changes. Is it worth it?. What kind of mileages can they do?.

My dad had 2 of these and an old boss in the trade sold a lot of them. The only problem of note would be the clutch at that mileage, they usually go around 120k so it may have already been done. At that money though it's got to be worth a punt?

140k on one of those is not high mileage. I had the same engine in an Accord for over 11 yrs, excellent job. Keep the oil clean and it'll go for ever, no cambelt due to chain driven, dead easy to service, 45+mpg. I only sold it because of knee problems and needed auto.

No DPF to worry about either. Like has been said, check the clutch.

We used to have loads of these as pool cars at a company I worked for, they were always very enjoyable to drive. Typical diesel sensation of great power and torque that tails off if you try to really make progress, but I seem to recall it didn't drop off quite as quickly as with most 4 pot diesels.

I think each and every one of them ended up with a slipping clutch before 3 years and 100k though!

Parent's finally traded theirs in a fortnight ago on that mileage, had become a money pit.

Cracked manifold - no one would touch it, quotes in the £1000s, Honda UK finally got involved and it was settled but still for a fair whack.

2 years of electrical issues such as draining battery, dealership could never find the drain.

seizing calipers (that's wear and tear maybe to be fair - I'm no mechanic)

clutch slip pretty much since 40000 miles, but it never got much worse so not a huge issue if you treat it with care.

Likely unlucky - every car has its issues at a certain age - but it wouldn't be my choice of high mileage car, due to the cramped engine bay anything that needed doing cost a small fortune in labour.

A guy at work has an '06 Civic 2.2 presently on 175,000 miles.

It's given him no real problems outside regular servicing. It had a clutch at about 100000 miles.

It looks tatty now but he doesn't really pamper it. Oh, the radio display has a mind of its own now, sometimes displaying correctly, sometimes not.

Mines just coming up to 71,000. No problems (touch wood) outside of usual servicing. Clutch is a perhaps a little weak on mine now, but nowhere near noticeable enough to warrant replacing and had a battery drain when I first got it at 18,000 miles, but that was the aircon relay which was a known issue and replaced without hassle under warranty. Been fine since and hoping for many many more trouble free miles.
