I guess the PH choice might be an MX5 and a Defender but I've gone for an '09 SLK350 and a '13 Evoque with all the trimmings.

What would you choose?

I am not a homosexual hairdresser. Promise. No, really. I'm married. Seriously.

Live in the country and chose a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and an 05 Lexus SC430 as our main cars - suits our needs fine.

(Don't know or care what 'image' that projects. smile )

Elton John was married to womangirlielady type a number of years ago too. No idea if she drove a convertible though, but I do know he preferred a stick shifter.

I'd personally go for a double cab pickup, you can get a clean 'fully loaded' one for ~£15k. No real reason other than I really like them and they fulfill all my needs for a utility vehicle. Not sure which one I'd get, first choice would be a Isuzu Dmax at35 but your not getting them under £35k. 2nd choice is split between a Mitsubishi L200 or a Ford Ranger. The former for its best in class 4wd system, the latter for its best in class engine.

L200

Ranger

Honestly for a personal vehicle in this budget it would need to be one of the top spec models, for a lower budget as a personal vehicle id be looking at the Chinese stuff (Ssangyong Musso/Great Wall) as they offer great bang for buck. One of these would be my 'Defender' in this hypothetical, for no reason other than I think there a massive hoot to drive.

So £20-25k for a 'fun' car. You can get a lot of fun for that money xD. For me it would be a tossup between an Elise for its go kart handling.

An Evo

An Mx5 (Holy st I just realised how nice the new one looks)

A GT86

Basically my fun options are all the usual light RWD sports car options, or an evo. Put m+s knobblies on the pickup (I.e good old bfg k20s) and drive it year round for everyday tasks, save sports car for fannying about in the sun.

Oh and a bike with any spare change lying around, theres always room for a bike! biggrin
1st preference would be a ducati 899, 2nd Triumph Daytona, 3rd Honda CBR600

we used to just have an XC90 and a Jazz
then came the Caterham
then came the Ford Ranger for when the XC90 wont offroad enough & to take shooting
then came the MX5 fo when the sun was out but the Caterham did not seem appropriate
then came a tractor ...
so now we have all of them and conseqently most of it sits around hardly used

erm, surely the correct response is something rwd and sporty, then a pair of hunter wellies for when the car isn't suitable. Slip them on and walk to the neighbours with the dogs.

For the exact reason i have an M5 & a discovery. Never had any issues getting to the father in laws with the disco and the m5 is pretty good in most weather so far!

£15K on a FFRR, preferably the V8 TD with lots of kit.

£25K on a TVR Tuscan (that's already had its engine rebuilt)

All the bases covered, and the lack of depreciation would hopefully balance out the possible bork factor?

Knew a guy with a Panda 4x4 years ago that used to get places our 110 struggled due to it's lack of weight, they're surprisingly competent offroad.

Wife's new SLK being delivered next month and we have an old 54 plate CRV with winter nobblies on for dog/shooting/diving duties. And wife's commute in snow.
