Thinking about this is giving me a headache so I thought I would see if anyone can enlighten me.

I am 52 and I have basically been pensioned off on ill health. I have always been a petrolhead having some nice cars and motor bikes over the years but now I find myself only needing the use of a car maybe once a fortnight or less, mainly for hospital appointments and physio. A bike is now out of the question unfortunately.

I sold my last car because of lack of use and everytime I walked in my garage I thought of how much it was costing me just sitting there, and with having to now watch the pennies it had to go. So I have been relying on family and friends to give me a lift but this is proving a pain because I don't like asking and sometimes I can be 2 hrs in hospital, and I feel it's unfair on them having to wait around.

I was thinking about a LR Defender but went off that idea because parking in a tight hospital car park with something that has an awful turning circle wouldn't be good. I thought of a Defender because they are timeless and hold their value. I really could do with something that will be easier to drive have parking sensors (rear) and ideally be automatic.

I have also thought about the following

MK 1 TT
Honda S2000

Both are a little too low to the ground these days though.

So can anyone think of something that can sit in my garage on a trickle charger that won't lose me a fortune in depreciation that is interesting and reliable?

Budget anything under 10k

Or just get a taxi. Could work out cheaper if your not going too far too often.

An Edition 30 Golf GTI would be my choice for your budget.

However, like a poster above I'd probably spend less and get something lkke a Swift Sport.

Keep the money in a bank that pays some sort of interest rate and use a taxi as and when you need to go out. If money is tight and you can't work due to ill health, no matter how much of a petrol head you are, you will end up resenting the car.

If you really want a car then I'd spend around 2k get a well looked after hot hatch, at that price you won't resent it sitting in your garage & you can have some fun on your way to the Hospital biggrin

Something interesting could be a Renault Twizy.

Unfortunately you have to rent the batteries for £45 per month, but there is a rumor that Renault may scrap it.

Yes, you have to, but if they break or whatever it's their battery to fix, not yours biggrin
