Volkswagen Up! (75bhp) mpared to a 1.3 Yaris SR - £4k budget
Discussion
Looking for a cheap as chips motor for occasional motorway use which is refined and can carry two adults and two kids on the odd occasion.
It's going to be an A to B car for work and pootling around.
I am leaning towards the newest car I can get, so the VW UP! Seems like good value.
I don't feel too comfortable having kids in either though. A rear shunt at some speed would not be ideal I reckon!

Why not look at a polo?
I had an Up! As a courtesy car when VW had my polo bluemotion for a service and was unimpressed with its gutless performance and long throw gearbox.
4k would get you a decent bluemotion
The bluemotion also has a decent amount of torque and is happy to sit at 95 on the motorway whilst costing peanuts to run..i'm certainly a convert

I was in a similar position and recently went for a Seat Ibiza. Same meat different gravy to the Polo. 10 plate low mileage for only £3k. It's the ecomotive one so free tax and getting almost 60 mpg on my mostly urban commute. Refreshing after 19 mpg in my e46 M3.
Funnily enough this is also replacing my E46 M3. I just want a fun car... Can't seem to find petrol Ibiza for 3k. I am loathe to go for a diesel.
