What would you get? Two cars required!

Hi,

Apologies if this type of post has been overused in the past, but I need your help.

Basically, without telling you my life story, I am returning to the UK with my partner in June.

I need some advice from you, the enthusiasts.

Depending on a couple of things, we will need to get 1 or 2 cars. 1 car if we are living on the school grounds where she has a new job, 2 if we live nearby and she commutes.

What would you get if we need 2 cars ( will call these cars car 1 and car 2):

1. For up to 10k
2. For around 2k.

10k Car - small to medium size car. Automatic preferable (but not essential), diesel preferable (but not essential) "for the missus to and from work"..
2k Car - large estate, SUV, 4x4, "for me, as I work from home,and the dog(s) as a runaround locally", diesel/lpg preferred;

What would you get if we need 1 car between us as my partner will walk to work (I will call this car, car 3)

3. For up to around 12k

Medium to large size car, estate, SUV, 4x4... Automatic preferable (but not essential), diesel preferable (but not essential) "for both us to use, plus room for the dog(s)"..

I don't need to be spoon fed everything! I can look at what to look for in used cars once I (helpfully) receive recommendations. I think!

Car 1 - default answer is a VW Golf. Although look at the Seat Leon as you'll get a newer and lower mileage example.

Car 2 - well only a Subaru Forester seems to fit, I know not diesel but I wouldn't be pissing about with an old diesel tbh..

Car 3 - sticking with Subaru the XV? Look them up if you don't know them nice mid size SUV with a 2.0 diesel and 4wd.

To be honest there is plenty makes and model fit the bill out your requirements into autotrader and make a shortlist.
