Hi guys,

Looking for a reliable and economic motorway runner and was wondering if you guys can help me out with some suggestions. Budget is £3k max (preferably closer to £2.5k). I will have a daily commute of 120 miles.

- Auto would be good but not essential
- Reliability is key
- In terms of age, 2006 onwards would be preferred.

Thanks in advance smile

Is that because everyone gets out of your way thinking you are a copper?

Just IMO there is nothing better

Seats like armchairs, good MPG in D5 form and very reliable if you get a manual - I'd actually be tempted to get an '05 for simplicity's sake

I run a 2007 Honda Accord CDTi manual, 140 miles a day. It's been great, and averages almost 60mpg at around 75mph.

Always feels like it will start everyday forever more (and has done so far for 18 months, though the battery does sound a little more tired now it's v cold).

Have you actually calculated that MPG figure yourself out of interest?

Also remember most pre 2006 diesels won't have a DPF so that's one issue you won't have to worry about, to that point I'd pick this:

2004 Mercedes C270 Avantgarde SE (I had a mapped CLK with this engine) 100k SH I'd regularly averaged 47mpg when on the motorway with car which had 170k on the clock.

2003 E270 Avantgarde 60k with the larger fuel tank

To be fair no I haven't, but I regularly get 600 miles out of tank (could do more I my right foot wasn't so heavy), so that would make it about 55mpg based on £60 pounds worth of diesel at £1.19 a litre. Not too shabby.
