RAV4 or Nissan Quashqai

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well.

I need some help with a decision to buy a new car.

My choices are Nissan Quashqai or Toyota Rav4 both 2014 models and both diesal.

Firstly does anyone own them and can anyone tell me the real MPG as that is a deciding factor.

I already own a Rav4 but its 185,000 miles old and its time for a new car. My Rav4 is petrol and does not do a great deal to the gallon but as it is a 2006 model I am sure that have improved some.

Any advise would be great thanks

Qashqai is a Renault/Nissan product, assembled in Sunderland and not without some gremlins, especially in higher specs.

RAV4 is typical Toyota, dull, reliable, but worthy. (I also had a 2006 diesel).

Slightly more dynamic alternatives are the current Suzuki Vitara, Ford Kuga, and the Mazda CX-3 or CX-5, or the Honda Cr-V. A much cheaper option is a Dacia Sandero Stepway DCi90 diesel (Qashqai engine), with at least 55 mpg or the 2017 Dacia Duster DCi-110, (same) at about 44 mpg.

Generally, people go for the easy-to-buy option, including having a nearby dealer to service the car, so it's not a straightforward decision.

i went through hoops to keep my petrol Rav (importing etc) as in France they're all derv.
It's boring but reliable and petrol mpg much improved since 2009. I believe the Q to be a much better ride, but for me reliability for many short trips over many years in the hills was paramount.
Why diesel?

I believe diesel is better MPG albeit slightly more expensive as I do lots of miles it works out better
