My wife wants an Audi A1. Despite my best efforts trying to persuade her to have something like a newer lower mileage Yaris instead for the same money..

Google doesn't throw up much Information, but she has 7-10k to spend so loirking at 2011-2013ish. The diesel looks a bit sluggish but is the 1.4 tfsi the problematic twin charged unit?

Will be buying an Audi approved used so should have a years warranty but would like a few years relatively hassle free out of this purchase (probably not likely)

Anything you can tell me about these cars would be much appreciated, good and bad. Thanks!

Until Saturday we had a 63 plate 1.4 TFSI Sport. The engine is plenty fast enough, and doesn't feel outgunned on the motorway. It's a very nice car inside, and if you can find one that's had a bit of money spent on options then that would be even better. We had no issues with it, only possible sign of a problem was the gearbox felt a bit crunchy, which seemed odd on a 20k mile car.

You could have a look on British Car Auctions (which is where ours will eventually end up, via WBAC), there are plenty on there. Good luck, pm me if I can answer any other questions!

I'd buy a Fabia if it had to be a VAG car, but a Jazz would be first choice by several miles.

I hear you! But I don't think I can convince a fashion conscious 25 year old to drive a Jazz as good as they may be. Couldn't even get her to give the Yaris a look.

I currently have a a1. ( placed my order for a a5 at the weekend though) they are great little cars I have the 1.6 tdi so was fast enough and had brilliant mpg. I average about 55 - 60 on my 30 mile drive to work every day. I would recommend going for the s line as there is not to many toys compared to other cars at a similar price. Most of my mates have similar small cars and not one of them is as well made or good looking as my Audi. ( I might be slightly biased)
Only down side with the a1 is how common they are now when I got mine there was not to many on the roads.

We had one for 18 months and 20k. Came with a free service package so didn't cost us a penny apart from fuel in that time.
Overall a very nice car, drives like something much larger, feels very solid and was fairly refined at 80+ on the motorway - it was the 1.6 TDI, would have had the 2.0 if it had been available when we bought.

Handling was ok, there are better but also worse. Ours came with Michelin PS3s from the factory, so the grip was great.

Interior is much nicer than the Fabia or Ibiza. Rear seats are cramped though, at 6'1 I could just about fit but if I put my head back it would hit the headlining before the headrest.

Only reason we changed was having a kid - needed something bigger and not 3 doors
