Mrs S Octavia Estate VRS TSI has reached the end of it's finance and it's time for a replacement. So we had a look around for a car with the following.

Similar size to the VRS
Similar performance to the VRS (about 220bhp doesn't want much more)
Boot no smaller than the VRS
No more expensive that the VRS
Not too 'boy racer' (Mrs S words) she took one look at a Focus ST Estate and nope straight away plus is was not a roomy as the VRS and boot a lot smaller.
Must be petrol
Must be new

We want another VRS but you cannot order one now and they don't have specs and details yet to order the face lift (which doesn't look as nice) but no other manufacturer seems to have an equivalent to Skoda's VRS Estate. Am I missing something?

You aren't going to get anything that size with a boot as big, apart from maybe a golf, seat leon

Keep the Skoda? Just finance the baloon assuming that is the reason for changing.

The Leon Cupra ST is the only thing I can think of that's close, but still a little smaller and you'd have to find a pretty good deal to make it similar price wise. Is there a petrol Mondeo available at the moment?

The mondeo is a much bigger car externally but there is a 2.0ecoboost with 240bhp which looks pretty good, however its only available in an auto

Superb 280? No boy racer look, goes like the clappers, nice inside, skoda practicality. Bloody pricey though.

The Superb like the Mondeo are bigger. We don't want any bigger than the Octavia.

Seat Leon ST - comes with 1.8 or 2.0 TSI, manual or auto and boot is only marginally smaller than the Octavia. A great package.

Looking at the brochure on the latest Leon ST it would appear not.

That's not new though. If I wanted second hand I could just get another VRS

I had exactly the same dilemma.

After months of thought, tests drives, research and consideration of every non Skoda option, my Mk2 Octavia vRS was replaced with a Mk3 Octavia vRS estate.

At least I got it in a different colour to the last one. wink

Make of that answer what you will.

If your budget stretches to a Leon ST Cupra (mine didn't) then the load bay isn't as big as an Octavia's but it's still quite generous.

Why not just keep the vRS until the new model is available?

Find a pre-reg or new but in stock octavia vrs
You say you want a boot no smaller than an Octavia, but in a car no bigger than an octavia.
Hasn't the Octavia got the biggest boot in class?
If so these two conditions cannot be met.

Not all the time I have a 19 year old car in the garage. There are reasons to do with company car allowances etc which means new cars on 3yr finance deals work better for Mrs S.
