Is the car I want out there?
Discussion
Some idle musings here.
If I was to replace my Chimaera, is there anything out there that I would prefer. This could be a year or more down the line.
Things I like in a car are:
Good looks - subjective
Exclusivity - a bit left field perhaps, something out of the norm
An interesting engine - nothing specific here
Performance - something at least as fast as the Chim
Value - I would like a car that will at least hold its value
Age doesn't matter to me but over 30 years old could be beneficial due to tax rules
No requirement for more than two seats. Budget would be probably 10k plus the value of the Chim.
I've put this tread in GG as I'm not really buying a car (yet), just musing.
So, what ideas do you have PH? I would like it to be something "special"

If we assume you Chim is worth around £10K? then you've only got a £20k budget.
I'd agree with the above and say an early Tuscan would be your best bet. Interesting, quick and for someone already versed in TVR ownership not such a scary prospect. I've seen a few with under warranty engine rebuilds around the £20k mark.
Evora prices are dipping into the mid 20's now so but might be a possibility in the next couple of years?
Anyhting else I can think of is a bit 'safe' TBH.

Noble M12
Thought about those but looks like they start at £30KEdited by SWoll on Monday 9th January 23:17
Thanks for your replies everyone. The cars that appeal most to me are the Tuscan (I always told myself if I replaced the Chim it would be with one of these), the Evora (if available in budget) and strangely enough the Clio!!
The Noble would be incredible but as someone has pointed out, out of budget. I would think the budget would be 20k or low 20s.

FD RX-7 ticks all your boxes and they're only going up in value which is why I grabbed one six months ago before they went out of reach!
This one looks pretty special: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/m...northwestrecover said:
I think you will struggle to find a clio v6 for 20k ,they are not slow but they are not quick by modern standards either .
Depending on your Chim it will feel quick though. My old 400 was by no means a quick car. Used all the power it had sounding incredible instead of going anywhere! Still loved it!Johnny 89 said:
....Perhaps a Maserati 3200? But would any Maserati be ruinous to own? (I don't know the answer)
No more than any TVR. Just like any Tuscan, there is the potential for a 3200 to be expensive if you buy a bad one.If you want to play a little safer with maintenance, look at Boxster S, Z4M, or push the budget and look at Lotus Evora (already down to £25k and will fall further) or the beautiful Noble if you want something a little more raw.
