Cars with an upright seating position...
Discussion
Hey, hoping you guys can help.
We have baby #2 on the way, hubby is 6ft 5, we drive a Honda Civic - he barely fits in the car. In a few months there'll be a baby car seat behind him and he'll need to push his seat forwards, rendering him unable to drive it (I don't drive). What we need is a car with an upright seating position really - but other than going for a huge car we're a bit stuck for ideas...
We need the car to be:
Petrol
Under £18k new or second hand ideally
Not your stereotypical family car
Not French or Italian (had both, unreliable)
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly welcome! Cheers

All cars have an upright seating position surely? I think what you mean is raised seating position.
Why not 2nd hand? Far more choice that way, or is this a PCP only purchase?
I am not sure of their values but I would take a look at a look at the Ford Smax for that sort of thing, If I was in the same position thought I would go 2nd hand and look at the Volvo XC60/90

Sorry - I mean so with the Honda Civic the seating position is quite laid back - compared to say, a Range Rover which is really upright. Second hand is fine (think I mentioned under £18k new or second hand) Why not 2nd hand? Far more choice that way, or is this a PCP only purchase?

Hi, I'm a long legged 6'4" and my son is 6'5" and we've found most cars fit. It's a bit of a squeeze to get in and out but we even both fit my mk1 MX5. I had a Civic before and it was quite roomy and there was room in the back for an adult even with the front seat fully back, I doubt whether he'll struggle with a baby seat, you won't need to move the front seat forward for at least another 10 years. If you really want something more upright and you like your Honda how about a CRV or FRV ? If you want something conventional with lots of legroom, both my Passat and E-class had so much legroom that I couldn't touch the pedals with the seats fully back.

We already have a car seat behind my seat and I've had to move mine forwards quite a bit (rear facing car seat for safety, so takes up more room). Good suggestion about the CR-V / FR-V too

Sorry, my family outgrew car seats quite a while ago and I hadn't heard of having rear facing child seats so I just googled it. I can see the problem there now.
Yes, most softroaders have upright driving positions if you don't mind 4WD as do the larger people carriers. If you like more conventionally shaped cars, the bigger Volvos are good as well as Passats and Mercedes. Without trying to sound racist, I find that cars designed by the Nordic and Germanic companies tend to cater for larger people than Southern European or Far Eastern manufacturers.

Doesn't sound racist at all Yes, most softroaders have upright driving positions if you don't mind 4WD as do the larger people carriers. I`ve owned both of these and out of the two I found the FR-V lacking in under thigh support on the seats, the seat squab was just too short....and I`m only 5`8"!
The CR-V would be a better bet out of the two for driver comfort.
Still have a good look at an S-Max though.

Ah thanks! I had a quick look at the CR-V etc but they're almost all diesel, which we don't want. This next car will most likely be our last petrol before moving to electric. The CR-V would be a better bet out of the two for driver comfort.

Will check out the S-Max too, head it recommended by lots of people.
Don't discount the Mondeo either as it's more than capable of fulfilling your requirements for front & rear space.
