Car number 5 and I've just turned 20
Discussion
Hi guys, so for a bit of background I am 20 y/o and coming up on 3 years no claims for what its worth on insurance. I am also looking to move on to my 5th car since I started driving, my previous cars were in order: 56 reg Clio campus, 06 reg 1.8 Astra sri, 57 reg mk6 Fiesta ST and most recently a 56 reg 2.0 diesel Audi A3 s-line(the last one is a touchy subject after being purchased from a dodgy garage which is now being investigated). Long story short on the Audi it was purchased back in October and has had fault after fault with garage repeatedly claiming to have fixed it although the problem remains, have lost all confidence in the car and it will be traded in. This leads me to now where I have hit a brick wall!
I am looking for something which will return roughly 45+ mpg whilst still fairly quick and fun/interesting to drive. I loved both the clio and the ST and miss the kind of fun factor whilst driving. There are not too many options which come to mind however, as it stands, I am swaying towards an Astra GTC either the 1.4 turbo petrol sri or the 2.0 turbo diesel sri. I know neither will set the world alight but they are attracting my interest. Now, as much a I am trying to learn more about cars and gain some knowledge right now I still feel clueless compared to all on here! I am looking for some advice, suggestions etc. on what may suit. The trade in for the Audi will be used for a deposit and I will most likely pay the rest of the price up monthly. Budget is sitting round about maybe £7500-£8000 at a push and as I said that price will be split between a deposit and monthly payments. Please leave feedback even if you think I am being totally stupid or if you think the Astra is a terrible choice just tell me, I want to broaden my knowledge. Thank you very much in advance

I was exactly like you and bought so many cars until houses and woman came on the go

The most important aspect of having a car at that age for me was the way it drove. Going from manufacture to manufacture you would be surprised how some cars just feel great to drive which the next is just a bore fest.
The ST and Clio are both drivers cars. Going from one of these to a Vauxhall would give you more MPG but far less smiles by gallon.
If I was you I would enjoy your youth and buy a Clio 200 and accept the 10+ less MPG.
If you really want MPG perhaps a diesel Mini which gives you high MPG and good handling.
That is just two. Many would state a BMW diesel as it is rear wheel drive.
Best to just have a go in a number of cars to see how they are.

I'm not gonna lie I have looked at Clio sports so many times and if I wasn't taking into consideration fuel I would have got one before even touching the Audi, my clio despite being a 1.2 was so fun the handling just reminded me of a little go kart! I would love to have another but I feel like there's pressure on from everywhere around to be sensible and buy something fuel efficient whether it is what I really want or not. I understand where people are coming from but some people see driving as a chore and also don't consider the fun factor. Mini's are something which I am really insure of, I like classic mini's but a lot of newer models just don't do it for me

If you want 'fun to drive' don't buy a Vauxhall IMO.
