Advice on a solid second hand motor with plenty of space..

My first post so hello all!
Just looking for a bit of advice. We are moving soon to a hilly, rural area and are looking to get a second car. I was thinking 4 wheel drive would be best as the roads get very Icey etc but I don't know if that's necessary really. I prefer to pay cash so if can get something for around 7k or less that would be ideal.
My main requirement is something reliable and well made, with plenty of space! I'm just not sure where to begin looking. Currently have a newish Fiesta and would like to get something other than a ford for this one too.
