Might be me, but I dont like the feeling that with a modern car using lots of ECUs, I am forced to use a dealer of an indie for jobs I could previously do myself. For example, I have been told that on the current Citroens, even a brake pad change requires the use of the computer / ecu reader. To make matters worse, whilst there are many places who could make you a crankshaft if no manufacturer spare is available, I doubt there will be the same option available with an ECU that, for example, controls engine, abs, traction control, electronic suspension, softop opening etc
So I am thinking of selling my current toy car and buying something young enough to be reliable but old enough to have no more than an engine ECU. Bit like my late lamented Elise which sadly now is too small / tight for me in my old age. Question is what?
The only thing I can think of that fits my requirements ( as above plus open 2 seater sports car) is TVR but I have heard horrible things about reliability. Maybe Morgan? Classics rot, rust and are unreliable ( been there done that) whilst modern cars are full of electronics.
Ideas?
