Just asked on my FB to see what the replies would be,

Just interested but if given the option of a new car, choice is an Audi vs a Skoda, however the Skoda is a lot faster, more luxurious and better equipped one, which would you take and why ?

I kept it vague as most are car folk so not saying a Superb 280 blah blah versus an A1 pauper edition or whatever,

First few replies, cover most opinions

All the same company. I looked at a VRS skoda for ***, however it's still that mind set of the name Skoda. We bought the Golf instead.

Skoda because its more luxurious and better equipped. You gave the answer in the question

Audi definitely... Wouldn't want a skoda even if faster & better equipped

The last one I kind of expected, dont think there is a right or wrong answer but this person would take the lowest spec A1 over a top spec Superb based on that.

Yes, agreed, I chose a holiday for two to the Maldives, a Speedboat and a selection of fine bone china instead !

The point was, that was the question, make a choice from the two possibilities, or, dont.

I had the choice, went for the Skoda. I'm very happy with it too. Nearly all positive comments, apart from the old man.

I have a Octavia vRS, chose it over a Golf GTI because it's bigger, and I personally think it's better looking. I've had the "It's still a Skoda" off my mates, I've explained it's the same underneath as a Golf / A3 / whatever else uses the MQB, but actually I don't care. I really like it!!

I had a Skoda (Octavia VRS)prior to my existing Porsche, would have no problem with having another, very good value IMO. There were just two areas that let it down, 1 - sound insulation, 2 - audio quality.
Point 2 can be sorted by ensuring you upspec the audio. Point 1 you have to live with ( not an issue in latest Superbs but is accross other models)

"If conpany car then Skoda as resale values don't matter so much"

interesting one, I said it was a free car, but are Skoda resale values that much lower (relative to purchase price)

Not all Audi stuff does that well, A6's and A8's seems to just go the trajectory of every other barge.

I said its a free car, but you have to use iot,

"So go for the Skoda then. All pretty much the same car underneath"

Seems people get that bit, but some struggle with the badge, its funny as that stems from sixties and seventies cars and jokes told by Jasper Carrot, neither of which are really around much these days.

I think, in a generic form, I would always choose the high-spec Skoda over the low-spec Audi (assuming equivalent models, e.g. A4 vs Superb, A3 vs Octavia).

Skoda, for me. I don't think they're great cars by any stretch but I'd rather have a fully loaded Superb than a pov-spec Audi.

Skoda, the badge snobbery should stop now there owned by vag group, and a base model a1 compared with a superb fully loaded, the superb would be a dream smile

Exactly. The question is too vague. You either prefer a prestige brand but less poke or you want a budget brand with more bang for your buck. Same applies to many things in life. Crap house in a lovely street, or lovely house in a poor area.

It won't stop because most people are too dumb to realise that there's absolutely nothing special about most Audis other than the badge.

eek But...but....the soft touch plastics...

I'd take the Skoda every single time. I can't understand why someone would choose to live with pov spec and performance for the sake of some imaginary prestige from the badge.

My brother-in-law was, until his very recent retirement, running a large multi franchise dealership in a wealthy part of Sydney.

He was telling me he had a problem with Audis. He had so many broken Audis, waiting for lengthy periods for warranty replacement parts, it was generating a parking problem in his workshop.

I was surprised when he told me that of all the makes, Mitsubishi generated by far the least warranty claims.

If it was the difference between a high spec Audi and high spec Skoda. Skoda.

Audi's are just so bloody dull to look at. Much like BMW's for me.
