Afternoon,

My OH has just passed her test and we went out looking for a car yesterday, the snagging point is, she's 4' 9. We tried out many cars yesterday, pretty much every small car, Clio, Corsa, Fiesta, Micra, Polo etc. all of which shes too small to drive. The only suitable candidates were new cars which exceed the £2,000 budget somewhat.

We even tried Kia in the hope the Asian motors would be better, to no avail.

A Vauxhall Zafira was OK though, not really what we're looking for mind...

Criteria:
Under 2k
Cheap as possible to insure, run and fuel
Something safe as possible.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tried a proper seat cushion and/or pedal extensions in any of the cars?

Daihatsu Copen could be had with a bit of haggling. Not sure how it chalks up on the safety stakes though...

ETA + budget for a hairdryer to help remove those stickers...

Fits the bill apart from there's no load deck to collect my corpse from the pub.

Citroen/Peugeot/Toyota C1/107/Aygo must be worth a look-my OH had one and she's quite dinky but didn't need the seat pushed all the way forward.

Tried them, were all terrible. Larger cars are seeming better. Might go and look at a Renault Scenic tomorrow.

Never imagined I'd be shopping for this kind of st laugh

How on earth are new cars better when cheaper older cars are physically smaller?

My wife is 5 foot.
She has owned a Clio, Megane, focus and a Honda Civic.

All seats on then have had the ability to be moved closer to pedals and pumped up higher than what she needed.

All under £2k now too.

How does she fit in a Zafira yet not in anything else?

Because the seat sits high above the pedals with the leg at an angle closer to 90 degrees. The gear lever is mounted close to the center console and the seat has lots of adjustment, along with the steering wheel.

She can also drive my S Class for similar reasons.

On the gearstick and seat hight points why not try a Honda Civic - the EP shape had the gearstick mounted on the dashboard which should help, the seats adjust like any others and being Japanese they may be a little better?

Like the EP Civic, the Citroen Xsara Picasso has the gear lever higher in the centre console than most cars. Not the most exciting of cars I grant you, but an option that'll definitely be available for less than £2k.
