£2.5k - Fun and slightly economical
Discussion
Evening all
Currently driving a C30 2.0D, and as comfy and economical as it is, it's slow and very boring (I'm 22 and it adds 10 years to me) ... I'm looking to buy my first house in the summer, I have my deposit sorted but don't want to break the bank in fuel when it comes to affordability!
My commute looks like it's going to drop to 50 miles round trip, someday's it will be 7 miles round! (Maybe only once a week) and I'm wanting something where I'm going to fill it up once a week.
Current thoughts are EP3 (Maybe too thirsty)? Swift Sport (Had one before) but more than happy to be told otherwise about the EP3
Any further suggestions?

R56 Cooper or Pug 207gti?
Both have the same modern turbocharged motor, get a solid 35ish mpg combined. Both get a hair under 7second 0-60 times, can't vouch for the mini but the Pug is a comfy enough commuter.
There's scare stories of timing issues, they do have a chain which lasts 50-70k miles. But it's an easy fault to listen out for and costs no more to fix than a standard timing belt.
I have the Pug myself but I know the Mini's are also popular on here. I strongly recommend them.

I'd have gone for an R56 but didn't realise you could get them that cheap? Can't seem to find one for that money either...Both have the same modern turbocharged motor, get a solid 35ish mpg combined. Mk3 MR2. Much more fun than any hatch, and light so great economy.
I'm averaging 43mpg in mixed use (35% city, rest motorway).
Not a bad shout, but personally not a fan of the looks - Bet it is heaps of fun though!I'm averaging 43mpg in mixed use (35% city, rest motorway).

Oh sorry, I was more talking about the Peugeot 207gti. Shares a lot of its components with the R56 Cooper S, but at a much lower price point. Much more sensible appearance too imo but that's entirely subjective. Codswallop said:

This ^^^. A proper open top mid-engine RWD sports car is so much more fun than a hatchback can ever be (said as the previous owner of a FF 182, 182 Trophy and Mk5 GTI). They also cost buttons to run and yu can get a nice one for £2.5k.I'm averaging 43mpg in mixed use (35% city, rest motorway).
