mercedes E 300 Bluetec hybrid snoozefest help

Guys, I need help buying something for the old man, we both just test drove he planned purchase, a used merc hybrid per the above.

He's coming from an 2003 e320 CDI, the new one was a total snoozefest beige inside silver out fleet car and not the same poke as the old coalburner.

does anyone have any good suggestions for an alternative luxury saloon, must be a hybrid(we live in town and he does mileage) budget around £25k he might go an SUV either.
