Mondeo 2.0 ecoboost
Discussion
I'm thinking of changing the clubby cooper s, I love the mini but I'm thinking of something slightly bigger.
After a few days of scanning autotrader I've started to look at mondeo 's specifically the 2.0 ecoboost with power shift.
Has anyone run one ? It would be the titanium model and they do seem to sell quite quickly. I'd be looking at remapping it at some point. I realise it's going to be different to a mini but maybe it's time to grow up ? The other shortlist cars are a 2.7 Boxster or the Jaguar SV8/4.2 XF, but £500 rfl puts me off slightly.
I have searched but there doesn't appear to be much info on them.

A colleague at work has one and has been running it for 3-4 months. Now this is only my take on what he has said, his other car is a X5 4.8 for reference. He seems to really enjoy the car, lots of toys, no issues as yet, quiet and refined. MPG is not so good, at best high twenties low thirties - mostly the former.
I've had a 2010 2.0 Ecoboost Titanium X Sport for 27 months and my Dad has run a 2011 facelift version for 4 years.
Any model which is pre-facelift or facelift and not a Titanium X Sport has the 203ps engine. Facelift Titanium X Sport cars are 240ps. In reality I suspect the 203ps models put out a bit more power than that because there is no real discernible difference when you drive the two back to back. Either that or mines been remapped previously.
No major problems with either of them. I've done about 25k in mine, I spent a while looking because I wanted one with Nav and Adaptive Cruise. The Nav looks a little dated, but functionally it's very good and the big LCD lifts the interior making it feel more modern.
The engine is very smooth and quiet for a 4 pot - it's so much nicer that driving a 4 pot diesel. The PowerShift transmission isn't as smooth as a torque converter auto, but it feels more like driving a manual. Shifts are very smooth. The only time you can sometimes catch it out and get a slight jerk is if you are slowing right down then boot the throttle to go quickly, but it's really very minor. There's never the delay you can get with VW DSG boxes where you can hit the throttle and nothing happens for a second or so.
I'm surprised by the very positive comments I get when I take work colleagues out in it who drive a BMW's and Jags and comment on how pleasant it is to travel in and how they didn't realise they made Mondeos with such a high spec.
They are very spacious and fairly quiet on the move. I regularly drive mine on 250 mile runs without stopping. The only thing that lets it down is the sports suspension tends to thump quite loudly over the bumps - noticeably worse than a 5 series or Jag XF but probably unnoticeable if you're coming from a Mini. The ride is actually very good for a car with sports suspension and 18 or 19" wheels.
Titanium X Sport is the spec to go for - but these tend to hold their value better. Front and rear parking sensors are essential, and the Xenon lights are excellent and well worth having and these are both standard on the Sport. Nav is also worth having.
Running costs are generally pretty good. Servicing under the Ford 4+ is £125 for a minor annual service or £195 for a major service (every 3 years), including a years European breakdown cover. Every 3 years the gearbox oil and filter needs changing at a cost of £200-£250. The oil is very expensive - it's specific to these boxes and you can't put normal ATF in. Fuel economy depends very much on how its driven. Around town and in traffic, especially when cold, it's awful - low 20's. With a heavy right foot and occasional longer runs you'll get high 20's. Driven sensibly and with long runs low to mid 30's is possible. Cruise at 60 on a long run I've managed 44MPG. My long term average at the moment is 32.5MPG which is a mix of normal use, 30 mile motorway commute and some long 200+ mile business runs. My Dad gets about the same economy he got from this 57 plate Octavia vRS he had before. The fuel tank is a decent size so a 500 mile range is possible which I find very useful.

Great info, thanks. I'm not bothered about mpg, adaptive cruise would be nice, sunroof would be another plus point. Suspension I'm not too bothered as I would probably lowere it as they look quite nice with a subtle drop. I agree the nav tidies up the dash but I'd probably change the head unit or just use a tablet.
Power wise, I think it would be the 203ps, I do like the facelift but I'd probably cap my budget around 7k, then remap it and fit a different exhaust.
