I'm close to buying a low mile 996 Turbo - 40k miles, manual etc

I've noticed the ridiculous rise in value of the 993 over the years and now starting with the 996 (in particular the 996 turbo)

I'd be sinking 45k of cold cash into this purchase and really buying to enjoy the car on a weekend but also to benefit from it's increase in value.

So - what do people think of the 996 Turbo as an 'investment'? Still going to rise in value over the next few years or has it's ship already sailed away?

As for value long term five to ten years will rise.
Example look at the 930 within the same time since pre 07.

If you think of it as an investment you won't enjoy thrashing it. In my eyes you should buy it to enjoy it and if you get something back for it that's a bonus. If you're buying it as an investment rather than something to drive, garage it and see what happens.

It may or may not increase in value but in order to maintain the best chance of at least breaking even then you'll have to pretty much leave it in the garage & not use it.

Also remember the bubble could burst through no fault of your own as has happened before, buy it if it's a good example & just enjoy it, the market in time will decide what your car is worth in 5-10 years time, I have a 66 912 the prices will rise & fall I'm just going to have fun with it.

I agree that there is a risk of the values falling, that said I couldn't see them going much below £20-25k where they were before the uptick. Obviously it's not my cash but that doesn't seem "that" bad as a downside case if you genuinely love the car.

Thanks guys

Admittedly it's more of an investment purchase. I would occasionally use it and enjoy it though.

I have other cars in my ownership that I would drive more often and not really worry about any potential loss as such.

It's just the lure of putting money into something that will make money. The 996T has started to rise and this one has the right boxes ticked - low miles, good sh, manual, coupe etc etc.

I know it's sacrilege to some in buying such a fine beast and not taking it out and loving it - but that's how it is in this case with the purchase

It will only continue to increase in value. Get in now before you look back in a few years having missed the opportunity.

Enjoy your purchase smile

If your not planning to use it much then buy it I can't see you losing money.

How many 930, 993 and 996 Turbos were produced? I've always assume the 996 Turbo are more common than the previous turbo cars.

Ive decided against it afterall.

Long story short is that I'm not 100% having all that money tied in a car. Worth exploring but I think its best to go with the gut.

Good idea, you always have add running cost each year.
This can add up very fast each year.

You have to be in it for the long term.
