Selling privately
Discussion
I understand this is probably a "how long is a piece of string" question, but I'm selling my car and need to get rid of it before I can buy the new one...how long does it take these days for a car to sell via private ads (autotrader/PH etc) It's just a Nissan Juke so nothing unique. What experience have people had flogging their motors, are we talking weeks or months?
Really the answer to that lies with you, price it as or amongst the cheapest, put good pics on the ad and describe it well and you will sell in a matter of a few days. If you are prepared to hold out for a better price then it may take longer. Assuming it is decent spec and a good colour?

Yeah it's the NISMO so highest spec and low mileage too. Not after an unusual amount for it either, just want to get more than trade-in quoted! Absolutely understand the importance of good and plentiful photos.I'm just impatient to order the new car and wanted to manage my expectations as to whether I'd have to wait several months for it!
Price it correctly
Be a genuine seller - for example I would mention the WBAC price in your add. Then say why you want just that little bit more.
Pictures of paperwork go down really well. This could demonstrate that you are a little bit OCD and so look after your stuff.
Ask them to call first and have a little crib sheet of information they would want to know. That way you can filter the time wasters out and you can ring them back to say that its sold already.

No, no, no. What you must do is look at the amount dealers are asking, including their inevitable 20% mark up, and ask the same. That's what most private sellers do apparently and it's fine.......I'm just impatient to order the new car and wanted to manage my expectations as to whether I'd have to wait several months for it!

It doesn't matter about it not being a main dealer
The main thing is that you made an intelligent decision to take it somewhere better.
(better value for money and better service)
The paperwork is for provenance. Shows consistent mileage increase. Shows that things were fixed etc etc.
The worst thing for me is this.
I see a lovely car, low mileage, coming up to 3 years old.
No paperwork to say that anything has been done.
It could have been ragged solid for the 3 years and then clocked back.
Sorry for me I need proof before parting with my hard earned cash.
