Hi all, just after a bit of advice from the ever helpful hive-mind of this forum.

I've owned my Subaru Legacy Spec.B for coming up to a year now and although it's a fantastic car I feel now it's just "for me".

Mostly I'm a bit anxious about the 21MPG average, with petrol prices climbing I'm finding myself more reluctant to justify owning it.
I also find it a bit finicky to drive in heavy traffic, which I seem to spend half my time doing. Out on the open road it's great but the trade-off isn't there for me.

And so I'd like to replace it with something more economical, reliable and reasonably cheap to fix if stuff does go wrong. The size doesn't bother me, to be honest I never really used the potential of the spacious estate anyway so if a smaller car's going to be better so be it! Don't mind if it's auto or manual, petrol or diesel but I'd still like it to be at least a little bit "fun", if possible! The budget is going to be roughly what I can get for the Spec. B, so possibly around the £3k mark. I know it's not a lot but it's what I've got at the moment!

I was looking at the Forester XT but then I realised the MPG is just as bad as my Legacy so probably not wise. The only other one I see recommended here is a Swift sport, which looks ok but maybe a bit too small... Then again I rarely carry anything around. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Panda 100HP ? Definitely more practical than the Swift.

Ignis (Sport) ? More practical but more basic. Poor ride quality with the Sport.

Mazda2 ? Fiesta based - probably has a bigger boot than the Swift.
