We have recently ordered my wife's first ever new car from an Audi main dealer, and it should be delivered soon.

I am slightly vexed that the value offered by them for my wife's '62 plate TT is £1300.00 BELOW that offered by a well known car buying website (and now confirmed by their local agent).

Am I being naïve to think that the main dealer would try their 'best' for us as a long-standing service customer?

Do their margins have to be so high that they cannot offer a 'decent' price for one of their own cars?

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Try Andrew Chapple from www.volkswizard.co.uk.

He's always looking for good VAG stock and is a decent person to deal with.

I think as they've already got your order they'll not be under pressure to give you a competitive price.

That said, if it's a car they can resell I'm sure if challenged they may have some more in it to get a profit our of your PX too, but if it's just a car they'll pass onto auction etc there's no incentive for them now the purchase deal is done

I wouldnt have done the deal until i got a p/ex i was happy with. Ive walked from my local dealer 3 times now as either their discount on the new car, or the p/ex bid, or both were poor. I really dont care which dealer i buy from, just the best deal overall.

I believe there are websites you can advertise your car for trade bids if its a tidy recent car.

They're telling you that they don't want it.

Flog it to WBAC instead.

I was miffed when a garage used WBAC to value our px, then offered us £50 more.

If they'd offered less then I don't think I'd have been able to resist just walking out. If garages are going to do that then you might as well just order off an internet broker.

Ive had that, their tag line was "we always beat We Buy Any Car" and they did, because they literally got up the website and added £50. I couldnt believe it.

Beating WBAC's price is quite literally the easiest thing to do since the first person stole candy from a baby.

They should call it "We add £50 to whatever crappy buy price you got quoted!" But maybe that level of honesty wouldn't fly so well with the marketing guys.

I think anyone who thinks long-standing customer will make a difference is now delusional. Be an AA member for 25 years and have high premium with a fancy Gold Card that offers a couple of HPI checks and discounts. Virtually every business these days place more value on new customers with new customer discounts than repeat and regular customers.

10-15 years ago my Dad was buying 2 Mercs a year from a local Merc dealer. The salesman before he retired had been there 25 years and there WAS a beneficial relationship. Then Merc decided to stifle competition and allow groups to buy out regions and they went the same way as every other polyester sales centre. The new salespeople didn't care that my Dad had bought tens of Mercs. Now I go into dealerships and salespeople change more often than my underpants.

How long is soon it maybe the value reflects the wait WBAC are pricing it now it may change when you collect it
Many reasons why it's worth less to the dealer old model less desirable they don't want it

The salesman in a main dealer absolutely couldn't give a toss about the service side.

Well, thank you for your honest answers!

We argued the toss regarding part-ex before we placed the order for the new car, so that didn't make a difference, in fact the low value nearly cost them the sale as we realised we had to find some more money.

I just think it's sad when a main dealer cannot even beat WBAC for one of its own cars.

BTW, it was a low mileage S-line Black edition and virtually spotless so I would have thought it would be fairly desirable.

I will never again expect an Audi to hold its value (or any other car TBH).

The salesman mustn't be able to believe his luck. His employers slapped your face yet you still ordered a new car off him.

So they offered you a really lousy value, and STILL you accepted it? <scratches head>

Were they planning on reaming you on the buy price if you didn't px, or something?

I'm confused.

If you agreed the PX deal with Audi then just tell them you'll pay them cash instead and sell the car to WBAC
If you want some more then add 1k on top, stick it on the trader or ebay and somebody will prob come buy it, I was after a BE TT for a friend recently and they were not cheap secondhand
If you can't be bothered to go to one place to sell and one place to buy then accept that your time must be worth over £1000 an hour and therefore better for you to PX

Why would you order anyway without having an agreeable PX price??

Next you'll be telling us you're delighted with the £500 saving off list you managed to secure
